we are leaving in 2 weeks for a 10 night stay at AKL. everything has been plannd for months now!! so anyway, we thought CR wasn't available for our stay. just for the heck of it, i called to check availibility today and sure enough we can stay in a wing for 4 of our 10 nights......... is it worth it? i have never hopped like this before, plus i haven't been in about 12 years. it would be the first 6 at akl and the last 4 at CR. should we? PLEASE HELP!!!! did i mention CR is at the 145 rate for the wing.. will we love AKL and wish we never left for CR WING room???

I love the CR, and for 10 nites that is a long enough stay to split it. 6/4 is a good split. and the 145.00 does not hurt either! :D I know CR is looked at poorly on this board but it remains my all time favorite be it the tower or the garden wings! :earsgirl:

IMO, having not stayed at either resort but seen them both, I would stick with the AKL unless you could get a room in the tower. To me, that's what would make the Contemporary worth it. At CR you would be picking up a larger room and a much more convenient location. But in terms of theming, it's nothing like AKL.

CR is great - on the monorail, you can walk to the MK, next monorail stop is the TTC so very central, decent pool, in terms of themes though it is concrete so it is what it is and the $145 rate is likely a standard view - could be parking lot view - if South Wing it is a bit of a hike but you walk a lot at WDW anyways.

I am split staying OKW and CR and expect to enjoy it.

6 nights at AKL gives you 100% time to absorb the themes and enjoy it - move on to something different (like CR ;) for the balance of your trip

We're splitting our stay the last week in May. It'll be our first time splitting. You're staying a long time, longer than us so splitting makes sense. Plus you save $$.

We love the YC/BC and can't seem to tear ourselves away from it. But, we want to try new things. So we're doing WL the first 3 nights and YC the last 4. However, now here's our little issue, we've been reading up on WL and I'm getting so excited that I might switch it to all WL for the whole stay.

Not sure yet but I'm getting excited.

Have fun and enjoy experiencing both resorts. Never tried AKL but we have stayed at CR and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Loved walking to MK.

I guess it depends on how much you are paying for AKL. I have stayed at both recently and MUCH prefer the AKL. It is just such a special, beautiful place. The CR (we stayed in the North Garden Wing) is nice and has a great location BUT is nothing compared to the AKL. Do you want to be on the monorail? If so, then you might enjoy the CR. But knowing what I know now about both resorts I would NEVER leave the AKL for the CR. Just my opinion though. (Do you have savannah view reserved?)

PamNC, I would stay with the split stay - WL is very nice but it is a great complement to YC/BC for a complete experience and themed trip

Thanks

I bet you wish you hadn't called now LOL

We are our own worst enemies when we keep checking things even after our reservation is set!

It might be cool to be on the monorail for a few days... why not try a spit 6/4 AKL/CR.

Have fun

Both resorts are fun. It depends on what you are looking for. The AKL (especially if you have a savannah view) is very laid back, beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It is wonderful to be able to sit on your balcony with a drink and just watch the animals. We watch a giraffe drink. It was so neat watching how he spread his legs to get down to the water. But... now on the down side... if you are going to eat at the resort alot you might get tired of the food. There is the food court Mara which was just okay in my book. Boma & Jiko have great food but I think you could quickly tire of the foods if you eat there several nights. You didn't say if you had a car or not.. but if not, you have to depend on the bus and if you are going to eat at any of the resorts you will have to bus to one of the park & change buses to go to the resort for dinner - or take a taxi which can get expensive. Also, there is no beach, water boats, places to bike or jog, tennis courts, etc. at the AKL. On the other hand, the CR is right in the middle of Disney magic. You can walk to the MK, take the monrail to MK resorts as well as epcot. So, it is a matter of what you are looking for. I would never get tired of the AKL - it is like a vacation within a vacation. But if you want two totally different vacation resorts and you enjoy the recreation at the CR, split your stay.

You seem to really like the YC/BC .....
I'm considering splitting between Fort Wilderness Cabins
($160 a nite) and the YC or BC($238 a nite). So far I've
only been able to get 1 nite at the YC or BC at the last day of our
trip...Since you like the BC so much would you change if
you couldn't get another day.We are staying 12 nites altogether
so I was afraid we would want to try something new...
But for the last day(can't check into until 3)Is it really that
wonderful that it would be worth the trouble???
If so, do you have any recommendations for a standard
view room that you've particulary liked???
Please help me make my mind up....
I'm driving my family nuts!!!

I cannot really compare the two resorts since I have not stayed at AKL (yet). However, I *love* the Contemporary. I love the 70's techno-chic decor, I love being on Bay Lake and watching the water parade, I love being able to walk to the MK and I love seeing the fireworks from the parking lot. I think you would have a great time if you added CR to the end of your trip :).

We haven't been to AKL, but our family loves the CR. We have done a GF/CR split, a complete CR and upcoming in June a CR/Poly split. It does have it's own special theme - and it's a Disney original.

Great things about CR:

-Close proximity to MK. I left my DH with kids at the pool, walked over to MK and shopped around the park. Was gone 2 hours - nice and peaceful by myself. And I didn't have to allow over an hour travel time.

-Monorail. It's great being on the monorail. You can hop over to Poly or GF for a nice meal. Also, you get to Epcot via monorail too.

-Gameroom. My kids loved it. It's big.

-Chef Mickey's right there in hotel, along with other good restaurants.

-The view of Bay Lake is really nice. When you're at the pool or playground, you feel like you are on an island. It's very peaceful.

-Lots of water activities.

Some time I would like to try AKL. My concern is how far away it is from everything. I have this thing about being close to MK. I'm curious about how long it takes to get to the other parks from there.

Also, we did GF first and then CR. It was the only way I could get the AP rate. At first my family was mad, but they ended up loving the resort very much.

Good Luck!!

I have not been to either hotel, but we are going in november and splittong our stay 4 nights at AKL and the last 6 at the Poly, I have never done a split either, but after enjoying the AKL I know my daughter will love being on the monorail and close to Mk, and I will love the ease fo getting to and from the Mk too!! I think I would split the stay .
