I am booking a vacation for my family, plus for my sister's family. She doesn't have a computer.

We are staying at POFQ, but my sister is staying at ASMov because it's cheaper.

My sister's mother in law just got back from a week long Disney vacation. She had stayed at ASMov in the 101 Dalmatians building.

Mother in law says that it was the worst hotel she ever stayed in when it came to noise. Not one night did she get to sleep before 2am because of noise. Doors were being slammed all the time. She said people were hanging out in front of the guest rooms goofing around until 2am. They were screaming and yelling and acting like fools. She said when it did quiet down you could hear other guests' tvs and music. She said that someone must have been bouncing a ball off the wall in the next room, too.

I asked my sister's mother in law if they complained. She said they tried several times to call the front desk, but no one would answer. They ended up going down the next morning to complain, but the same thing happened the next night.

She told me that they couldn't enjoy the parks because they were so tired. She said she got sick because of lack of sleep. When they did fall asleep after 2am when it quieted down, they couldn't get up in time to enjoy the park earlier. She said the loud people didn't even get up until at least noon.

This lady travels quite a bit, and says this resort was the loudest place she's ever stayed. She told my sister to stay offsite. It's cheaper, plus it would probably be quieter. I don't know.

I've read lots of threads on here about ASMov. I'm just not sure what to think. Is this just a rare occurance that my sister's mother in law would have such a terrible time for 7 nights in a row? They are usually really easy going people. I was surprised.

When my sister booked her room she just asked for non-smoking. Should she call back and request a specific location to try to avoid the noise situation? My niece is a very light sleeper and gets sick a lot.

Would they be better off staying at Pop Century? If so, is there a quieter section we could request?

I see that Pop Warner is scheduled to be during part of her stay. She's concerned about that, too, but won't pay any extra to stay at a moderate resort.

Can anyone give me some advice?

I really thank you. I didn't think that booking a vacation for someone else could be so time consuming.

Hi,

We(putting on my flame retardant suit) have also stayed at ASMo and although I didn't find it loud, I didn't enjoy my stay here either. In my opinion, we find ASMu to be much more serene.

Sports & Movies tend to attract the majority of teens (I too have a teen girl so I'm not knocking them) and they tend to get overly excited that they are in Disney!

I think the over all feel over Music(maybe the lighting seems to be quieter) Also Broadway area tend to be quieter.

Hope this Helps,
Lisa

I don't know if I can help you or not. We've stayed at AS twice and never had a problem. Next time she should be more persistant in reporting the problem. We had to move at the GF one time due to kids that would be running in the hall as 6 a.m. each morning. It's a pain to move, but it's worth it for the sleep.

Definetly have her call a few days before (I think they do room assignments 5 days out) and tell them she wants to be in a remote area as far as traffic patterns go. Most familites probably request to be near the pools, so steer clear of that.

I have always had luck with requesting a specific area and they have been very helpful when resolving a complaint issue.

Good luck!

Weve stayed at ASMO 3x and have never had an experience like they had. How horrible for them. But we have also always been on the back side of the building. I dont know if that has anything to do with it, but we have never had any excessive noise in our rooms at all. In fact weve had barely any noise(other than our own kids, LOL!).

Oh boy..this is where we were thinking of staying! What section of the hotel would you all reccomend?

I have stayed at ASMO many many times I love it there and so do my kids. I stayed in the Fantasia building directly in front of the pool i never found it being to loud occasionaly u would hear people walkig by talking but it never really bothered me or make me go and complain.

Don't worry about staying at the All Stars. We've stayed at Sports and Movies several times. Only one time have we heard noise. In January, 2001 we were in the Toy Story section and about midnight, the people next door came back to their room. We had an adjoining room so there was considerable noise bleed through. I just called them up and asked them to keep it down. And they did. And we didn't have another problem.

We stayed at OKW last summer and again had an adjoining room and again heard our neighbors. And again I called them up, and they quieted down.

My point? I don't think the All Stars are considerably noisier than other resorts. We've stayed at the Poly and OKW and POR and CBR and have not found the All Stars to be any noisier. There may be more kids at the All Stars and kids = noise, but there are loud people everywhere. Some things just can't be avoided.

We stayed at ASMo in Aug of 2003 and we had a horrible stay also. It was my family's first trip to WDW(my 2nd)and my boys were so excited to stay there and I felt pretty confident because of all the good reviews I'd read! We didn't have as much noice problems as we did, unclean room, roaches and bad customer service. I think it's kinda the luck of the draw ya know. If shes that worried, esp. with pop warner being there at the same time I would switch to Pop if I were her!

Thanks for the replies.

It's frustrating to try to help book a vacation for someone else.

I do know that if noise happened that many nights in a row I'd be doing more than complaining.

Now my sister isn't even sure if she wants to go to Disney at all. I guess her mother in law told one too many not so nice stories about her vacation. Sigh.

That's okay. We're still going. :D

We have stayed at several of the Disney resorts. We have had great luck being on the top floor of moderates and All Stars. It is a lot quieter because you do not have any noise above you. I would suggest asking for the top floor there which I believe would be the third floor.

We've stayed at both Allstar Movies and Music. The kids liked the theming better at Movies - we stayed in Toy Story (courtyard view - 2nd flr). I will say, our trip to Music was quieter. Our room was in Jazz (back side of the build, second floor). we had a little bit of TV noise from next door, but no foot traffic noise at odd hours (you have allow for some noise up till 2 hours after the parks close - as people return).

Bottom line - if you want quiet - request an upper floor room at the back of the building, which is not too close to a pool. as mentioned a little bit of it is luck - you could be placed next to a family with noisy teens at any hotel.

We haven't encountered excessively unclean rooms - but if you do, definitely ask to be moved, or ask the situation be resolved immediately.

I hope your sister reconsiders - she will most likely have a great time.

Jeff

We didn't have any problems with our stay at AS Movies. We stayed in the Mighty Ducks building which is in the back so that might have helped. I never heard any of our "neighbors" besides the door shutting when they came in or left.
