My daughter's gymnastics team will be traveling in January for a meet at wide world of sports complex. We need a good cheap hotel not too far from disney. Travel expenses are keeping our group from staying offsite, which is what my family always does. Thanks!!

Have you thought of a few larger homes in a near by resort? Sharing the expense may work even better for a larger group?

no that may be an option. Do you have experience with larger homes or can you make a recommendation? I am a disney resort vet with no experience other than a one night stay at the sheraton a few years ago.
Thanks

Hello, not sure how many kids are going and how many are adults. Here are suggestions that include both a hotel option and a private home option. I am assuming you are looking for best rock bottom price for a place to stay that is safe and clean.

If you would like to try a home, I suggest a simple internet search with no obligation and compare it to a www.priceline.com search. If you are arriving after Jan 3 or so, prices will be going down. If you think you need about 4 hotel rooms (for about 12 kids and two adults), I have NO doubt you could go on Priceline and search area 4, 1, and 11 ONLY on the map of hotels in Disney World area and get a great price in January. Any hotel in this area will be within an easy drive of Disney's WideWorld of Sports complex.

If you want rock bottom try about $20.00 night for a two star or $25 for a 2 1/2 star. 4 rooms for less than $120/night including all taxes and fees. Remember, no refund or exchange once you book on "name your own price" on Priceline. So maybe you want to try option below first and see what happens.

Go to www.lastminutevillas.net and do a search of the Disney area. Most of the 5-6 bedroom homes would sleep 10-12 nicely and give the adults a bedroom with a private bath. I would check the minimum number of bedrooms as folks will more bedrooms will also respond. Check "flexible" for number of bedrooms. Check "Orlando Kissimmee" area. In the little area where you can write a note say something like "Hello, there is a group of 10 ( or whatever number) of 4 adults and xx number of 12 to 14 year old girls coming to compete at Disney. We would love to stay in private home. Our budget will be about $150/night to include pool heat. We will take very good care of your home and leave it spotless." This search will go to hundreds of owners of homes in the area and they will respond to your email quite quickly. You will get prices, websites where you can see each home, and if you want you can check back with us about driving distances from homes you are offered.
You might be surprised at the number of responses you get. Figure most homes will have 2-3 King or queen rooms and rest double or bunks, so girls would be sharing one bed in some cases or have a twin. Usually couch pulls out.

Either way, if you are on a tight budget you can get great prices that time of year. Not to mention you could cook and do at least breakfast in the home...Most kids love the private pool!

Good Luck...Ted

I can recommend a really nice 6 bedroom home that we rented about 3 years ago when we took 4 families to WDW. It is www.closetomickey.com the gentleman's name is Royce and he treated us like family. Check it out and call him and tell him that Bobby Standley from Arkansas sent you. The house was more than comfortable and affordable and was 10 mins away from the world.
Give it a shot and let me know what you find out.
Have Fun!!

I also would check www.travelzoo.com for cheap hotels rooms. I would google Orlando majic card too. Look up under hotels see what type of discount is offering.

What about the Comfort Inn LBV that was running the $29 special recently. Seems to get pretty good reviews lately since they refurbished.

I would advise against using Priceline. Only because they only guarantee bedding for 2 guests per room. At least with Hotwire.com you can specify 4 per room and get it.
jmho, but I wouldn't go below a 3*. It gets a little scary then.
We've found 4* for $49 per nt + tax so you can easily get something very nice for not a lot of $.

Hi again...not sure where you are at with decision. Lots of good advice from really old pros on this post.

I have used Hotwire also and got great results for hotels. I was not aware of the ability to ask for 4 to a room on Hotwire...
Also, looks like more like $30-35 for 2.5 star which are very nice hotels. We have not had a problem with Priceline or Hotwire but we always just stay a night or two. Not sure how many nights you are looking for.

If budget allows, looks like about 3star at about $40-45 would get a great deal also.
Good luck, let us know what works for you...Ted
