My fiance Aunt was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, she goes for both radiation and chemo. She lives in Florida and we live in New york. We are going to visit her at the end of the month. I have never met her. I wanted to bring her a gift or basket of some sort but have no idea what to get her. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess I would start with asking your fiance what the aunt likes....maybe bring something that is native to your area that she cannot get where she lives. Not sure if she can drink or does drink, but usually a local wine is nice. Any wineries in NY?

I would say some nice lotions and creams. Books or music to listen to for when she's getting her treatments.

Maybe tuck a nice pair of comfy slippers in the basket as well.

I did ask him he is no help. and his immediate family doesn't know either so I pretty much on my own.

Oh great idea about the books and music. I didn't think of that

Lotions and creams are usually great - but you might need to get unscented ones. Chemo can make some people have a reaction to scented products (nausea).

Many people on chemo lose their taste for chocolate.

I think an inexpensive cd player and some books on cd would be a great idea.

Hospitals can be very cold, a soft blanket or throw to put on her lap or around her sholders might be nice. Also maybe a nice scarf for her head if she starts to loose her hair.

If she drives, I'd get a gas card.

Since gift cards came out, that has been my standard gift to everyone I have to buy for but do not know. :)

I like the idea of a blanket, too. The whole room seems more friendly when the top blanket isn't standard hospital blah. :)
