Need Frogg Togg help!!!!!!

We are going to WDW in a week and I purchased 2 large frog togs to help with the heat. They came in a plastic container and were soft like a towel. It said to wash them, which I did and put them outside to dry so I could pack them. Now they are hard like a rock and not straight and flat anymore. What happened? How do you pack these things?

Maybe I will wet them and put them in a plastic Ziploc right before we are going to leave. They are like pieces of cardboard right now but not straight and flat. So strange!

Follow the directions that came with the towels.

How should I care for the Chilly Towels?

Follow the instructions on the packaging for wetting the towel for its initial use. Once it is removed from the plastic packaging, wet the towel thoroughly, wring out any excess water, and allow the towel to begin evaporating.
If the towel becomes soiled or dirty, machine or hand wash with standard clothing detergent and rinse completely.

If the towel has been stored damp and develops mildew or an odor, add 1 tablespoon bleach to 1 gallon of warm water and allow the towel to soak for an hour or two. Then, rinse thoroughly to remove any bleach residue. The towel can now be washed in the washing machine to remove any residual stains. Hang the towel to dry, or place the towel in a storage container.

When storing the towel, (once washed) you may want to use the original storage tube that was included with the towel or store in a Ziploc bag for safe keeping. But the towel can also be hung and stored dry. (Simply rewet the towel to use again)

Then just wet them before you head to the park each day and store them in a plastics bag. When you're done for the day, fold them up and let them dry again.

Oh, and don't forget to use the original container for storage. It has a hole in the end cap to allow it to breathe and if left long enough, to dry itself out, slowly. We use ours once or twice a year, always stored damp (not soaked) in the original containers, never a problem.

We decided to try one on our trip last September, and ours mildewed when stored in the original container, just damp enough, after one day. We never actually even got to use it in the parks. Tried it out just before we left, and on our first day we got it out at Epcot and it was covered in black spots. So disappointing.

See, this thread has me skeptical. I bought a few for an upcoming Sept trip when I'm a Dec girl and I have a feeling I set myself up for hassle. It seems like these have to be delicately handled "just so" or else you face mildew, mold spots, stinkies, crusties....geez, I hope I know what I'm doing and win the battle against a piece of cloth....

I had one that mildewed as well. For our last trip I bought a different brand at Target. It was more like a scarf and didn't have that slimy feel. It also dried soft. I liked it much better and it worked just as well.

We bought them for our July trip but did not use them after the first day. I found it easy to get cooled off in shops and attractions and with water. We did see lots of people with them around the parks. I stored them damp in the container after the first use and they dried just fine.

I lost 2 frogg toggs to mold and mildew trying to store them in the container- the first towel I put them away damp and put the lid on. The second towel I left the lid off and it still got mildew. What I do now I leave them out until they are mildly damp (still pliable). Then I fold them up a couple of times and put them in a ziplock bag. I leave the bag open. This has kept them mildew free!

Also, I tried that method with the bleach and water and it didn't remove the mildew.

Don't get discouraged! They really are effective! Just follow some of the advice here.

Mine said specifically to store it in the original container never completely dry. Still works and smells fine a year later.

Can I ask a slightly related question? What do people do with these? I understand that they are towels that feel cool...do you wrap them around your neck? Head?

The brand I purchased was Mission Athlete Care Enduracool Towel. I really liked it. It completely dried overnight and I was able to roll it up and fit it nicely in my crossbody. It was about 30 inches long by 6 inches wide. I would not have used a regular towel as it would have been too thick and "hot" around my neck. Others in our party used the official frogg togg brand and I liked mine so much better. Last, I purchased it from Target on an end cap right by the checkout for about $14.

I would wet my towel at the sink in the bathroom and ring it out a bit (not dripping). I would then lay it across the back of my neck with the ends trailing down my arms. It would cool me down for about 30 minutes outdoors and then I would need to do it again. I didn't use it all day long, but only for those times when I knew I would be outdoors for a long time. For example, waiting for a bus at Hollywood Studios in a line with no shade.

My container shipped from Amazon and it did not come with a top. Hmmm. Maybe I am missing something? Just the container with bottom but no top. I only bought one just to try out. I'll wet and fold flat and pack dry. And bring ziplocks to store in when in the parks and not needed. And let dry in room overnight. Moldy smelly would be a bummer especially if you have a sensitive nose like me. (The natural gas company guy complimented me on my sense of smell once )
I love beat the heat strategies since this is our first summer trip. (Everyone keeps tell me how hot and humid it will be since clearly I had no idea when I booked an August trip to Disney that it would be hot.)
