Hi,

I am getting ready to book my shore excursions for my W. Carribean cruise in July. Can any one recommend an excursion in Cozumel? We were thinking of the Jeep tour but am unsure whether it is good. Should we book thru Disney or Shoretrips? We are thinking of doing Capt Marvins in Grand Cayman too. My other question is.....Are these Islands safe to walk around and go shopping? I am not too worried about Grand Cayman but what about Cozumel? We wanted to do some shopping and go to Carlos and Charlies. Anyone have any experiences? Is a beach trip better in Cozumel? or Are Island tours the way to go? Any feedback or advice would be great!

Thanks in advance,,

Heather

HI , here are a couple of things i'll be doing in Oct hope they help

GC - Stingray / snorkel tour nativewaywatersports.com $25 pp

Coz - Minigolf challenging round of 18 holes is $7 per adult and $5 per child 11 years old and under. We give each group a walkie-talkie so that they can call in their drink orders and we deliver to your hole! Beer and sangria are $2, soft drinks are $1. It takes about
an hour to play a round. http://cozumelminigolf.com

Coz - Paradise Beach - here is the report from another cruiser which made me more comfortable about booking our own .
Cozumel - Paradise Beach is wonderful!

Hi,
Just wanted to let everyone know that Paradise Beach in Cozumel is just
as great as all the rave reviews I've seen have mentioned! It's just 10
minutes from the International pier (I was sailing on the RCI Enchantment
of the Seas) and the taxi only cost $12 (no tipping taxi drivers either
in Cozumel!). When you're driving there, you see a lot of very dense bush
on the sides of the road and then all of a sudden, it all opens up and
you see lots of beautiful palm trees! This is the entrance to Paradise
Beach!

The beach is just beautiful; lots of white sand, the water is great,
there are lots of lounges with umbrellas and small tables. We arrived at
around 11:30am and were able to grab a few water mattresses. The bar and
restaurant were very nice too, and the washrooms and changerooms were
VERY clean. We ordered tortilla chips, salsa, a hamburger and a spicy
chicken wrap and they were delicious! The food portions were quite
generous as well! The service was great; it only took around 20 minutes
to get our food and the waiter served it to us right on the beach!

There's a trampoline and an inflated iceberg that you can climb in the
water. There were also kayaks that you could use. TI would caution you to
be careful when you enter the water, especially if you are not close to
the iceberg. It's kind of rocky when you first get in and kind of
slippery. But once you go 1 or 2 feet in, it's nice and sandy. The entry
is much easier if you're right by the iceberg.

And this is all for free! You only pay for food and drinks and T shirts.
They also have services such as massages that are $1 per minute. This is
a beautiful beach and you just can't beat the price! I think that for 3
adults, we only spent $40! I had booked a shore excursion with RCI to
Playa Del Sol, and the entrance fee itself was $37 Canadian for each of
us! This fee didn't include food or drinks either!

So if you want a nice beach to visit in Cozumel, make sure you go to
Paradise Beach! The fellow that runs it, Tom, is very nice as well and is
always making sure everyone is comfortable and has everything they need.

traycie2201, you had posted earlier asking for feedback re Cozumel and
Key West, so I just had to tell you about Cozumel! Re Key West, we took
the Conch Train and it was great! It was nice and cool and the guide was
hilarious! We really enjoyed it and found out all sorts of interesting
things about the history of Key West, their historical and more famous
homes and saw gorgeous plants, flowers and trees! We actually meant to
take the Trolley Tour which allowed you to get off at different stops,
but we mistakenly got on the Conch train which doesn't let you off. But
in a way, it worked out for us because we kind of enjoyed just staying on
the train and out of the heat!

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

my husband and son did the jeep tour in Cozumel about a year ago, and according to them they had a blast...

i snorkled with the sting rays thru dcl in gc. it was a disappointment. the sying rays were wonderful but it took a long time to get to sting ray city and the boat was crowded as was the sting ray site. the many people in the water chrned up the sand and lowered visibility and many of them screamed. i would recommennd a smaller excursion like capt marvins. no poersonal experience but i hear it is mich better and cheaper.

we wnt to the ruins at tulum in cozumel. the ruins are magnificent. definitely worth the trip. it is a long trip, however, and the lunch in food from subway you eat on the bus. i would not do an excursion on my own in mexico. i don't speak spanish and in case of a problem disney is not obligated to wait for you.

shopping in cozumel was fine. we took our son (13 at the time) to senor frogs where he had a blast. he joined a conga line and the bartender gave him a shot of tequila sunrise as the conga line snaked past. we also had "mexican" food, ie, nachos.

Don't mean to go OT, but herrbeeb, did you MEAN to say the bartender gave your THIRTEEN year old a shot of tequila???

wonderwoman1982, well it was tequila sunrise and it happened before we could stop it. in any case, he had a terrific time and didn't suffer any ill effects. he still talks about it. he is a middle child so he seldom gets his own adventure.

the standards are different in mexico and as children under 18 are not allowed to leave the ship unaccompanied we are always with them.

ps. sorry for my abysmal spelling.

Yes, all the ports that you will be visiting will be safe and easy to walk around. Of course, as in traveling anywhere, keep your wits about you. (don't walk down any dark alleys, take any small packages from any locals, keep to the touristy areas in town, etc.). Grand Cayman is a fairly wealthy island and there is very little if no crime, Cozumel is a quaint little city (but growing yearly to a tourist trap) that you can feel very safe walking around. it is going to be loaded with cruisers, shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Charlos & Charlies, as well as Senor Frogs are both in the shopping mall directly across the street from the dock. You "must" walk through the mall to get to town the way they have it set up now. Easy as pie to find. (And there are nice public bathrooms right there too.).

You will enjoy yourself, feel free to book an excursion on you own. We did the Jungle Dune Buggies and LOVED IT! Disney Magic is in Cozumel until 11 pm so there is plenty of time for whatever you want to do and then some.

Grand Cayman on the other hand is a shorter stop, you must tender in, and it is very expensive (we had 3 appetizers, 4 cocktails, and 1 smoothie: $89.00US) at a little lunch place right overlooking the docking area. I love Stingray city, but having been there 3 times now, I think that next time I will just find some great beach for snorkeling and do that. I really like GC and they have some of the nicest water, and snorkeling in the world. Don't expect it to be a big "bargain shoppers" paradise like the Virgins or Cozumel. It is geared toward people with big bucks, serious and not so serious snorkelers and divers, and turtles.

Try the Dune Buggies, Try the Dune Buggies, I so want to try the Dune Buggies in Cozumel. mrsfuzzmo says they are great.

We booked the Jungle Jeep Tour through Travelnotes http://www.travelnotes.cc/cozumel/tours/jeep.php while we were on the Voyager of the Seas last August. We had a blast. Our 3 boys (14, 12 and 8) love, love, loved it!!! I'm glad we booked through this company as the ship excursion jeep tours can be 20+ jeeps -- making the tour itself not so personable. We were 6 in our group plus our guide, Susan. We had two jeeps. It is a very rough ride no matter which company you choose so if you have back/neck problems you probably shouldn't do this one. The snorkeling was great and the lunch was fabulous. We had the entire beach to ourselves. I'd highly recommend booking this tour. HTH
