It's that wonderful time between receiving a college acceptance and knowing what scholarship amount my dd will receive. Dh says no WDW trip this year because of our extra college expenses, but I'm thinking if the scholarship is good enough, maybe we can still squeeze a short one in. :thumbsup2 Wouldn't that be nice? We still have valid PAPs, and of course points for a room..maybe we could just eat PBJ sandwiches all week? I just need enough extra $ to get us there. I'm so pathetic.

I am with you.. If no coll help, what about picking up a part time job? or ebaying goods, or babysitting friends/fam or even from craigslist? anything..

I would find a way (if I could ) to go with PAP and points.. your costs would be travel and food/spending.. I would certainly live off of a box of smuckers pb and js if it meant doing it in disney!!!! making food as cheap there as at home, and just find a way to earn my travel $$.

Not crazy at all.. I would do it!

I'm the mom of a dd who is in her first year of college and I can tell you the expenses were WAY more than I thought AND she received $36,500 towards her yearly tuition. EVERYTHING just adds up and it was a lot more than we thought and we were expecting a lot LOL

I do like what the pp said about maybe you can convince your dh that the two of you should just go and it would "save" money by your dd not going.
Actually, last year, to make myself feel better about my dd moving out of the house, I planned for the last week in August / first week in September.
It was an excuse to get me to Disney and maybe one you can use on your dh. LOL

Thanks for your wonderful DVC empathy and suggestions.

Our trip would be without college-bound dd, just have one other child, and I can't see leaving her alone right now when she'll be missing her sister terribly (they are very close).

I'm already doing the craigslist thing for some film festival trips. Dd is earning money for school as well. I could probably do some work, but I also homeschool my girls, so that does sort of take up a lot of my time. We typically end up with airline miles to travel, so I'm not really sure what the problem is for this year. I would totally get it we had to buy passes. It could be that he's thinking we need to save those miles for dd's travel from college on breaks. She'll be going a LONG way away. :(

Dh gave me a $ amount that dd needs for scholarships in order to have our WDW trip, so at least there's hope. He also thinks we should just rent out our points to get some extra $. Maybe we could rent out half and just stay in a studio for less time than our normal trips. --wheels are turning--- (where's the appropriate smilie for that?)

js - that is an awesome scholarship! Thanks for the heads up on the unexpected expenses.

In case you haven't been there already; http://wwww.fastweb.com www.meritaid.com and www.capex.com are good spots to search for scholarships.

Thanks. She joined fastweb. I've always assumed that once you're in one of those search sites, you're covered. I was trying to avoid putting her info. out in too many places. If you know differently about the various sites, let me know. I think she's found 2 or 3 scholarships from fast web (or other general internet searches). It seems like most of the scholarships we're finding are kind of strange and not applicable to her. The most promising ones are the college's merit awards, dh's work, and another company we do business with regularly.

We are in wait and see land with our DD as well. It will not affect the trip this year though. Not sure where we will be a year from now, but she has a ton of essays to write.
