For Christmas I'm getting my DH a golf membership to a nearby golf course, and that completely eats up my budget for him (goes over by quite a bit, actually). BUT, he's the kind of guy that likes to immediately play with his gifts ( and although he'd never admit it, he's sometimes a quantity over quality kind of guy, too). So, I need to find some inexpensive things for him to be able to play with - any ideas?

I'm thinking about those things in the middle aisles of places like Kohl's...

"swiss" army knife
little puzzle
new wallet
led flashlight
sports data book
trivia book
new hat/gloves
car ice scraper (I saw one w/ some sort of mitt for a handle)

how about:
scratch off lottery tix
beef jerky
some other favorite food? (my dh likes pickled okra...)
favorite beer?
travel mug

good luck!

My DH played with a remote control helicopter for hours one Christmas. I think it was between $10 and $20 at target on sale. I guess trying to navigate it around obstacles around the house was challenging enough for him to work at it.

I had never heard of Perplexus before, but based on on a quick search, it looks interesting. There are three varieties: rookie, original, and epic. The rookie appears to be aimed at kids, the original is aimed at everyone, and the epic is for people who have completed the original.

THANKS for the great recommendation for the Perpexus!!! That is absolutely perfect for my geeky (said with love) daughter, husband and daughters boyfriend!! Now to decide between the original and the Epic. Btw...Amazon has them all under $20 with free shipping over $25.

My husbands uncle bought all the guys something like this http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Kart-Rider-Car-Color/dp/B002WL57WG/ref=pd_sim_t_4 one year and they all loved them.

How about a book or magazine subscription

I love Think Geek and have bought several cheap gifts there that have been big hits. Star Wars Lightsaber chopsticks about $13 are a big favorite among the men I know. My husband has the Darth Maul set that hook together. This year I'm buying R2D2 ice cube trays $10 :rotfl: from there and packaging with 2 liters of a favorite soda.
