I was wondering if anyone has had experience making a cake with cannoli cream filling. Not a traditional cannoli cake, but just a regular cake with cannoli cream as the filling. Chocolate or white cake? And what kind of frosting would I use? Would it be way too sweet with buttercream?

Thanks in advance for your help! :thumbsup2

I might be confused & I'm not Italian but cannoli cream is not overly sweet made with ricotta. I've never tried it in a cake with frosting. I wouldn't think it'd be too sweet but I'm not sure the textures would mesh very well. Can you give us more information? Just thinking of my palette I'd probably do a real vanilla cake with some Grand Marnier drizzled over the top. Then the cannoli cream with the mini chocolate chips in the middle. And a vanilla frosting just lightly flavored with orange zest.
