Flying out in 35 days! :goodvibes

And I need a good book for my trip, it has to by lfunny, and interesting. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ohhhhhh, another good thread....Again, my pen and paper are ready!

I'm currently reading "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden. It's not funny really, but it is absolutely enthralling, I can't seem to put it down.

Anything by Christopher Moore. I reccomend Island of the Sequined Love Nun, Practical Demonkeeping and Blood Sucking Fiends. Christopher Moore's works are funny, entertaining and will keep you interested. You can read more about him at his website of www.chrismoore.com

Over the past month, I have just read the whole Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I loved these books!! I couldn't put them down once I started. They're all funny and intriguing.

I adored Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris. It's really funny! :flower:

anything by Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed, In her Shoes, Little Earthquake, Goodnight Nobody). Easy reading, funny, and good stories.

I'm reading a book I'm really enjoying. It's called "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt. He wrote Angela's Ashes & Tis, which were great books.

How about the Shopaholic books http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/s...1?url=index=blended&field-keywords=Shopaholic

They are pretty funny and easy to read.

I usually take a Nora Robert book on the plane because they are easy start/stop books for all the interruptions on a flight. I like BIG books for vacations while sitting on the beach, by the pool, etc. like Tom Clancy size books.

I just read Can you Keep a Secret? I love her books. I read it on the train home from NYC in about 4 hours. Any of them are good. I think Shopaholic and Sister was the worst though.

Oh and I like David Baldacci. Christmas Train is great and I am reading Wish You Well right now and that is great!

Awesome suggestions everyone! Keep them coming, I will print of this list later and take it with me to B&N to pick my in flight book!

I liked Rosie Dunne and P.S. I Love You, both by Cecilia Ahern (I think its something like that). They both were cute books and fairly easy to read. I also loved A Bend in the Road and The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks. They really aren't funny books, but they were really good.

Round Ireland With a Fridge is laugh-out-loud funny, and light reading-good for travel. Written by Tony Hawks.

I also find lots of dark humor in many of John Irving's books. They are a bit on the heavier side, though.

I must also highly recommend Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Lots of laughs there, along with drama, tears, love, sex, violence, and anything else you can think of!

So many books, so little time! Enjoy!

Let's see...

I'm very partial to Nelson DeMille. Not funny, but very engrossing reads. Just finished Night Fall, and that was definitely a book I didn't want to put down. The only book of his that I couldn't get into was By the Rivers of Babylon. Charm School, while dated, is still an excellent book.

Faye Kellerman is another author that I grab the latest Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus book as soon as I can. They're best read in order to get the history of Peter and Rina, but the stories are self contained. Police procedural/mysteries with family dynamic and rich in Jewish Orthodox family life.

Anything by Marian Keyes is great. Probably my favorite is Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married, but I haven't hit a dud by her yet.

Meg Cabot's books for adults are good, too. The premise was that she was going to do them for an e-zine, so they're written as emails to each other. Once you get used to that format, they're cute reads. Boy Meets Girl, The Boy Next Door and one other book.

If you want romance with a good plot, Katie McAllister has some great ones. I happened to pick up "A Hard Day's Knight" so that I'd have something to read while waiting to pick up a friend from the airport. It was funny, racy and I learned quite a bit about Ren Faires and jousting.

I have feeling there are several of us who will be printing these out. It's great to find a new author to enjoy, especially when they've got a large catalog! My dad and I were a great resource for each other and once he passed, it took a long time to find authors I liked besides the ones we'd share books back and forth.

Marion Keys books
Particularly "Sushi For Beginners"

Oops! I see that Poohnatic had already covered Marion Keys. Sorry Poohnatic -I think we were typing at the same time!

I have loved the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and all it's sequels. They are well written, and easy to read on a trip. You can pick it up and put it down, and not lose any of the plot.

Right now I'm reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, and it is fantastic! I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm currently reading:
"Ballad of the Whiskey Robber: A True Story of Bank Heists, Ice Hockey, Transylvanian Pelt Smuggling, Moonlighting Detectives, and Broken Hearts" by Julian Rubenstein.
This book is very funny and extremely enjoyable.
It was a finalist for the 2005 Edgar Award (Best Fact Crime) and a New York Times "Editors' Choice."
