We are going to Universal for 2 days in April 12 (US) and 13 (IO). We'll be at AK on 4/10, HS on 4/11, MK on 4/14, EP on 4/15, and either MK or EP -1/2 day at 4/16.

My son thinks one full day at US and one full day at IO is good but I think hopper might be better.

1. If we buy one day each park tickets and we discover we want to upgrade to 2-day hopper tickets, can we do that?

2. If we can, would the cost be same as if we were to have done it first before changing?

3. If he still doesn't want to have hopper tickets, I am thinking since I've been reading that AK and HS is 1/2 day park (we don't have hopper tix for WDW either), if we finish either of the park early, we can take uber to IO (he wants to spend more time at IO than US) since Universal has buy 2 days get 3rd day free, will that give us enough time at IO?

What do you all think?

Better to buy hopper for 2 days and stay full day at AK and HS or no hopper but one day at US and one day at IO or try to get to IO at least few hours after AK or HS?

Thank you

You won't be able to ride Hogwarts Express without park to park. And since its spring break I would want to have park to park to open up options more if you find one park is really crowded

if you buy a one day one park only ticket, you can upgrade it to the P2P ticket while in the park.
this can be done at guest services or at the HE ride entrance, ticket booth.

if you bought a one day park 2 park ticket for the start of your trip, yes, you can go to guest services before the park closes to upgrade to a 2 day park to park ticket.

think about it now as if you start out with a single day one park ticket and upgrade it before you leave the park that day, you would have missed out on the benefit of both days perks.
upgrading a ticket to include p2p would have also upgraded the present day in the park.

We couldn't do it all in 2 days with park hoppers. I feel like I missed so much in the harry potter areas. We are planning on going back this summer and spending a whole week. As for AK and HS depending on what you like to do these are definitely not half day parks.

I don't live in a world where AK is a half day park.

I haven't been to DHS recently, but we never go into it thinking "Half a day". But sometimes we just get tired, and DHS is the easiest park for us to leave after a partial day.

As for 2 days single park vs hoppers...I was there the other day for 5 or 6 hours and went from Studios to IOA to Studios...and I didn't even RIDE anything. I'm ALL about hopping. :)

In all honesty - I could never imagine going to Universal and not having park to park tickets. It is nothing like park hopping at Disney - the parks are so close together it is so easy to go back and forth.

You never know what that "one last ride" choice will be - rip ride rocket? Dueling dragons? Mummy? So many options with park to park tickets!!
