The DH and I are thinking of possibly taking a trip to the World sometime at the begining of the year. I have only been to WDW once, and that was on a school function, so I really don't remember much about it. The DH has never been before, and I would love to take him. However, I was wondering when the best time to go is. We would like to go when it's less crowded, and maybe even in the "off-season", if there is such a thing for WDW. We have cruised with DCL and I know that going in January is cheaper, because that is considered off-season for them. I was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice to a very newbie!! Any advice on resorts would be great as well. The DH would love to stay at Wildnerness Lodge. Is there a place that I can read reviews of the resorts? TIA!!

You can do a search here on the resorts board. You will find lots of information about WL.

January is cheaper and the first week of Feb.

Spring break starts President week and goes until the end of April.

May can also be a bargin. It has the flower/garden show at Epcot. Star Wars weekend at Studio.

Sept is also cheaper and generally not very crowded.

Oct/Nov has become more and more crowded - one reason - food/wine festavial at Epcot - plus the golf thing, etc.

Dec is lovely and I think a great time to go. the crowds vary with when you go - early Dec - not bad. but the great thing about Dec is - the place is decorated!!!!

If I had to pick a great time to go I would say May. We have been a couple of times in May and found good deals and the weather is picture perfect. We are avid fans of the water parks etc. so we really like going when the weather is warm, yet not too hot!

Just my two cents.

We have had great experiences in mid-November and mid-February.

The pools are hit or miss then though, some days it is warm enough and some days it is almost too cold.

We like those times because of low crowd levels and cooler temps. I dont handle extreme heat well. I thought it was almost too hot this year first week of october.

Have a great time planning!

There are nice videos of each resort on the Disney website..

and Deb's site has lots of photos, maps, etc

and last but not at all least .. here on the Dis is plenty of info. Just click on the first link above "Dis Home" and follow the links

We love going in January. Sometimes it can be chilly at night, but the crowds are so much smaller than other times of the year. You might want to make a reservation asap, as Jan is filling up fast. We will be at the Beach Club Villas Jan 1-7!

I vote for September. Anytime on or after Labor Day. I think it is one of the least crowded times of year and the weather is beautiful. Plenty of warm sunshine to take advantage of the pools. Good luck and have fun planning!!

I have to reply, even if all I wanted to say was GO DAWGS! (But, of course, I have a lot more to say than that! :rotfl2: )

We went in late September this year ('05) and the crowds were minimal. We rarely waited in any lines, and if we did, it was usually less than 10 minutes (and I felt cheated if it took a WHOLE 10 minutes.)

The weather was very nice, still very warm and sometimes even hot, but you're from GA and used to it - very much like home, and could be cool to very hot depending on the day.

The danger, of course, is hurricanes. This year was not anything like '04, and I think WDW was only really impacted by two or three tropical storms, instead of getting battered repeatedly by some serious hurricanes, but the danger is always there. The bright side to this is that WDW seems to run specials most years to lure people there in hurricane season, so some bargains can be had. (This year, it was the free dining offer. We ate well. We ate often. We gained weight, even walking all over the parks!)

As to resorts. Check out allearsnet.com for pictures everywhere. We stayed at POFQ, which was lovely, small, and romantic. I'm with you, though, and really wanted to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I wanted to stay there so much that I made my husband go there to see it on our last full day. I was trying to tempt him into another trip very soon. It was breathtaking. The pool was really cool. I still want to stay there!

Anyway, have lots of fun planning. From everything I've heard, touring parks is a lot different from cruising! (My friends told me it requires a lot more energy! I wouldn't know as I have never been on a cruise. pirate: )

Oh, and finally, GO DAWGS!
