I am a Canadian headed to Vermont this week and I would like to buy some Disney gift cards that I can use for our 2024 trip. We have some US cash so it makes sense to buy USgoft cards and avoid the foreign currency exchange.

Can anyone give me some guidance on the best place to buy gift cards in Maine or Vermont? Deals, etc.

Anything else I should be aware of? Common scams?

Thanks!

If buying from a retailer there should not be any scams.

If paying with cash BJ's or Costco should be your best bet, but you will have to pay a membership fee and that will eat into your savings so you will have to figure out if it's worth it. Not sure where you are in CDN but PQ has some Costco location, but not sure if those locations have DGC's.

ME has a few BJ's as does NH but VT has none. The store locator can be found here https://www.bjs.com/allClubLocator

As for Costco, there have one in VT and some in NH but none in Maine you can search for locations here https://www.costco.com/warehouse-locations?langId=-1&storeId=10301&catalogId=10701

I added NH as if you are traveling between VT and ME you might be passing by a BJ's or Costco location.

I forgot about Sam's Club as I don't have any near me.

Again a membership club and they do not have any VT locations, but do have one in Plattsburgh NY (depending on how close you are in VT to there or maybe live) as well as locations in NH and ME (for some reason one of their ME locations only show up in the NH search). Here is the store locator https://www.samsclub.com/locator

I have never seen Disney gift cards at Costco. And I shop there weekly.

Costco would work, there's a Vermont location close to where I'll be and my Cdn Costco membership works there.

Do they usually have them?

More research shows Costco doesn't have them.

I did read that I can get a free one day membership at BJ's though... anyone know what the price is for a $500 gift card?

There is an entire thread in the budget forum that lists all current Disney giftcard deals and is updated every day.

Page 1 of the thread lists current deals, though I am not sure which ones make the most sense for someone coming from Canada. It might make sense to get a Sam's club membership, or it might not be worthwhile. I also do not know if any of the credit card reward deals are offered in Canada. If so, that might be a good option to get a small % off.

One way a membership might be worthwhile is if you can also buy more than gift cards in the same visit.

Next week is Amazon Prime week and other big box retailers will have a wide assortment of competing offers, like Target. If you are allowed to join Target Circle, and a store is not too far for you, that might be worthwhile.

You can buy gift cards at big box stores (Walmart, Target), grocery stores, drug stores (CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid) and even some home improvement stores (Lowes, Home Depot). You will be buying them at face value. $100 USD = $100 Disney Gift Card.

Thanks everyone.

BJs doesn't work for me because the one day pass excludes gift cards.

So the good news is we can, and will, buy gift cards while I'm here in the US but cannot take advantage of any discounts.

Thanks for your input!
