I am in a dilemma and just looking for advice. Or even a What would you do in this situation? I have 2 job interviews tommorrow. I am currently employed for 11 years at my present job. I just hate getting up and going to this job everyday. It has changed so much in the last year, it is a miserable place to work. It is also a hard job, production work. Yet the good things, I get 200 hours of paid vacation a year. It is set only certain times I can be off though. I also get paid pretty good. The other 2 interviews I am scheduled for tommorrow will cause me to take 4.00 an hour pay cut. That is quite a bit. I am not sure about vacation time etc. I am sure it will not be that much. Also I can only work certain hours because my children are in school and my dh works the midnight shift. My ? is Would you stay at a job for the money and be miserable or would you cut the losses and take one of the other jobs? Assuming I am hired? Sorry it was so long. Thank you for reading, and any advice you have please share! I really need it.

But if your current job is really making you miserable, and affecting your home life, then you may need to make some changes. IMHO, no amount of money is worth sacraficing your happiness and family life.

A $4/hr pay cut is less significant if you're making $30/hr than it is if you're making $12/hr. I don't know what you're making (and you don't have to say), but that would make a difference to me. Also, five weeks is a lot of vacation time, and hard to get in a new job. Is there anything you can do to make your current job better?

OTOH, life is too short to keep a job you absolutely hate. If you can't make things better with your current job, you might have no choice but to make a move. Good luck. :shamrock:

Misery can effect you in all sorts of way, if your not happy at work then you take that with you when you leave. I personally would take the pay cut and be somewhere where I would be happier. I understand that your benefits are good as far as vacation time, but if you are unhappy there then its time to move on, of course thats just my opinion.

Oooh, tough call, You have to see if your new job will be as accomodating with your kids schedule. I always stuck out my job because it was convenient with the kids schedule. Now I started my own business and after 6 months in business I am at the point that I am ready to quit BUT even though I am making triple my salary with my own business I have reservations quitting because it is such a convenient place to work.
How old are your kids and do you "need" to work. If you don't "need" to work then I say go for it and if you don't like it, you can always get another job.

I think I just answered my own question. Thanks

For me it would boil down to "what is the paycheck for"?
Do you need this to pay bills?
It will be very stressful to be at a job you love and can't pay the phone bill.

Weigh the Pro's and Con's...:thumbsup2

Something to consider:
Is the new job one that you can "climb the ladder" a little bit? and work back towards higher pay?

How sure are you that you will be happy in another job? I think we are all miserable at some point or another - and we feel that the grass may be greener on the other side.

One thing that's keeping me where I am is my tenure - it's like an "insurance policy" that we have to work years to get to. I actually feel that if my director leaves....things would be better.
So that's really what i'm waiting on. In the meantime, i have to suck it up!

If I hated going to my job every morning no matter how good the benefits were I would find another job. I would take the pay cut and go to the interviews. Why work somewhere you hate going everyday how is that fun or enjoyable?

Thanks for the advice. It is appreciated. Just an update on the 2 interviews if you are interested. The 1st on today was a pretty good job. The downfalls it would take me 10 years to make what I make now working there. You have to work all holidays except Christmas Day. The hours are longer and the insurance higher. I would have probaly taken the job if not for the pay. It is terrible. Well on the interview #2. It is a job I think I would really enjoy. The pay is not much, but it would be rewarding, if not a little boring. The only thing there is not any days off. You have to work all holidays. You get 15-40 hours of vacation a year. Compare that to my 200 hours a year, and I think when would I ever get to WDW. Also I have children, they would miss their mom on holidays and I wouldn't have that extra time with them. So I am going to continue with my job hunt. Please wish me luck. I just wish we did not need the money so bad, then I could take the job for a lot less pay and get out of that miserable place I am in. Anyway, Thanks again for all the advice, please feel free to add more. Hopefully I will find my dream job soon. Well that would be working in WDW, and that is not going to happen(too far away) so at least a job that benefits my family and myself and one I would enjoy.

I say, stay where you are? Convenience and VACATION is worth it all. Stick it out.

Hey, think of it this way: at least for all the aggravation you get the rewards of halfway decent pay and plenty of magical vacation days. :wizard:

It is a tough situation. Maybe you could just consider that your current job offers you time with your family plus the 200 hours vacation time gives you even more time with your family. Also, if having a schedule that accomodates your kids is the most important thing right now, then I would stay in this job but just keep an eye out for others. These 2 jobs didn't have what you were looking for but you never know when something might come along. Good luck.
