Hi all. I wanted to get advice on using our points to book at the Yacht club. We really want to stay at the Yacht/Beach club this summer, but our plans got all messed up with the blizzards up here. We are limited in the days we can travel now due to our annual passes. And we will need to book 5 people so have to have a one bedroom or larger.

So we booked POP for five nights with the free dining pin I received and that is fine with us because it is going to be a park, park, park kinda trip. But then we want to relax for three more nights at the one of the DVC resorts besides OKW and SSR (please don't flame me:flower3: I was just at SSR last month and I am too afraid of the hard beds at OKW plus we will not have a car and lack of some kind of food court scares me. It looks beautiful, just not for us right now).

Well of course all that is available for a 1 bedroom at this late date is OKW and SSR. So I was thinking for about 30 extra points I can get the same nights at Yacht Club. We will be two adults and three kids, so we can fit in the Yacht room and then we would have access to Stormalong Bay.

We would have to pay the $75 fee right, and once we make the reservation we can't get those points back if we change our mind right? Not sure how this works. I know it's not the best use of the points, but would love some opinions.

Thanks so much!

The Yacht Club isn't part of the DVC resorts, but the Beach Club, it's sister resort is, they are 2 separate entities. You would only need to pay the $95 fee if you opt out of the DVC resorts into the hotels, like the Yacht Club where there are no villas, just rooms (you mention 1 bedroom or larger). The same DVC rules apply to the Beach Club resort (where Stormalong Bays is) in the event of a cancellation, prior to 30 days points go back to you, after 30 days the points stay in holding in the current year and can only be used within 60 days of a stay. Last day cancellation, points are lost.

I hope this helps clarify things.

Thanks Beaslyboo! We of course would prefer to use our points to stay at the BCV, but they are completely booked and very little chance of them coming available in Summer. So since we want to stay there and nothing else is available for our dates at DVC we were considering using up our points to stay at the YC instead. We would still have access to the Stormalong pool right? We don't need a villa type room with kitchen, just a room we can book 5 in, which at YC I believe we can.

Thanks for the Cancellation information. I really have to weigh whether I want to waste the extra points AND pay the $95!

Yes, you would have use of Stormalong Bay. When DVC changed the booking category for the Yacht Club etc. I wondered why they charge $95 rather than the typical $75 fee most timeshares charge, but I guess that's Disney. I paid the $95 to stay at the Grand Floridian last year just because I had always wanted to stay there. It might not have been the best use of my pointd, in the opinion of others but we thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

I hope your plans work out for you! Good Luck

Curious - how many points does it cost to stay in a non DVC resort?

Just mulling over options for the fall. If our resale comes though we would be under 7 months to our next trip. BCV in October is tough to get and that is where we want to be. I was thinking we would pay for a room at BC and then bank points for next year. Though using the points for a regular hotel room has it's appeal if it can be done.

Go to DVCMEMBER.com. The point chart falls under the Disney Collection and then click Walt Disney Resorts in Florida. The per night points are steep, plus you have to pay an additional $95 fee. The points vary from resort to resort and from what type of view is chosen.

Remember you cannot book in the Disney Collection for a stay during the last four months of your UY during that same time frame. So if you have a September UY, you couldn't book that stay during May, June, July and August for a stay during that same time.

Sun-Thu 44 a night for Standard room, Fri/Sat 66 a night! Hope this helps!
