I am thinking of getting the deluxe ddp for the first 2 nights of our upcoming AKV/BCV stay. Here's my thinking but I know most folks say the dining plans don't save money and I may not be considering everything. I will use the credits to cover 3 days of dining. Our adr's are: Deluxe DDP-$420 vs OOP $429
Day 1: lunch Sanaa $55 dinner Boma $80
Day 2: lunch Sci Fi $27 dinner Raglan Road $68
Day 3: lunch LTT $42. dinner Cape May $ 95

We would definitely spend at least $20 on snacks and buy at least one mug so , with tax I am coming in at $430 and the deluxe ddp will cost us around $420 (dvc price).
When figuring oop cost I was very frugal. At leadt one cheap entree, only one app and dessert to share and water to drink. If we go with the deluxe ddp we will happily order more expensive entrees, get a appetizer and dessert each ( admittedly this us a lot of food for us but we would like it), coffees with dessert, an extra snack to use as breakfast and two mugs instead of the one we would buy. I realize we are tied to 2 reservations a day but we would be anyway since you have to cancel the day before and we have a day and a half after these credits run out to just eat whenever/whatever. Can anyone point out anything I am missing? I do not want to justify buying the ddp but if we have to make the adrs anyway I figure we might as well save a very few dollars and get a lot of extras.

Tax was added after those figures were posted. For some reason I couldn't edit the post.

On the deluxe plan, each meal credit is worth about $30. So, you're coming out way ahead on Cape May and Boma, breaking even on Raglan Road and, and losing money on the rest. You come out ahead with the plan, but only barely.

However, you mentioned that you're paying the DVC price. Are you a DVC member? Have you figured in the DVC discount at those restaurants, or considered purchasing a Tables in Wonderland card? You're almost to the breakeven point with just those there days, and you've got more days booked, right?

Yes we are dvc members and we have a day and a half after our credits run out. Tentative adr booked for Biergarten but not sure we will keep it. We may want a day and a half of no plans. Are you thinking TIW would be better for us?

will you be back in the next 13 months? Are you traveling over a black-out period? The break-even on TiW is about $500, and you're already at $430. Biergarten will put you over the top. And TIW works on alcohol, too.

Yes, I am returning in March with 3 teens for 8 days and will probably do 3 ts that trip ( VN, CP lunch and 50's) DH and and I will probably do our fall long weekend next Oct while my AP is still valid. We do plan on one cocktail per day also. ( just DH and I, not the teens :goodvibes).

With all of that planned, I'd definitely drop the DxDDP and go with TiW.

You get 3 credits to use per night and it look like based on your plans you aren't using all of them. Keep in mind that you're paying for these credits too so it may not be worth it if you don't plan to use them.

What? She has two nights worth of credits and six meals booked.

I just switched Raglan Road for Jiko. We don t want to deal with DTD this trip. I think if I were to get the plan it would make more sense to pay oop for sci fi and use 2 credits each for Jiko. I'm estimating we would spend $ 100 at Jiko. This is making me insane :scared:

I cannot help you. Truly. But I feel your pain! We tried to run our numbers today for our upcoming trip, figuring in where we have reservations ( and which ones we would be fine missing if we had to), the cost of the DDP, and the DVC and TiW discounts. I'm still not sure we've got it right.:confused3

Us too. I've done many calculations including all the ddp, deluxe ddp, TIW and OOP and they all come out pretty close in pricing. I wish there was a clear winner.

I've done deluxe dining. It was in 2012, and someone else was paying for our Disney stay. It was a way to pay for dining ahead of time.

They didn't lose money. But we ate ourselves silly. By the end of the week, we were dreading dessert. And we are, or at least can be, big eaters.

Oh, and I took about 2 dozen snacks home with us. Yes, 24 snacks. We started with 36, but we were so full from the meals, that we couldn't eat another thing.

At the time, Tables in Wonderland wasn't an option.
