We have planned a family vacation for my son's 7th birthday as a suprise for him in December (10-18). My parents and sister and brother in law are also going as a suprise.

We planned the trip back in January when things were going well. We have just learned that my mother has a severe brain tumor and they are giving her about a year to live.

We're not looking for a free vacation or anything...just wondering if Disney made any type of accommodations for families in situations such as ours...Obviously we want to try to take advantage of her time when she's feeling good and make her time with her grandkids as special as possible.

Also...would like to know if any of you have been in similar situations, and how you handled it.

I may not know very many of you but if you can remember to say a prayer for her, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance....I apologize if this is in the wrong forum...please move if so.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

At this time the only thing I could suggest is use of a wheelchair and possibly a Guest Assistance Card. I would suggest clicking on where it says disABILITIES at the top of this page and look at the "disABILTIES FAQ" which is the second thread listed. It will give lots of useful information.

Note that there is nothing specific that is done, but a GAC will be issued with indications on it based on the specific needs of the individual. It will not be a front-of-the-line pass.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. My wife's mother passed away a couple of years ago from a brain tumor, and we went on a big family WDW vacation while she was sick (but she was doing pretty ok at the time) and we had a great time! She was in a wheelchair most of the time and that seemed to work just fine. It will get you into an alternate entrance on some attractions, although on many attractions now the main queuing area is wheel chair accessible. She will only need a GAC if she has some other specific need that would prevent her from being able to wait in line.

My prayers are with you and your family. It goes without saying to cherish every moment, and definitely do everything you can to make your WDW vacation a special one. It's probably our best memory of my mother in law while she was sick.

Sorry, I don't know if Disney does anything, but , my youngest child was born with an Inoperable brainstem tumor. I just want to let you know that Doctors are not God and just because they give her a year doesn't mean she can't outlive that by many more. I know of many who have surpassed the odds so try to hold on to hope. I am not sure what you would like to know in regards to how to handle it, but, if you have a specific question then I would be happy to try to help you.

Prayers and gentle Hugs!
Nicole

My prayers go out for you and your family.
We are in a similar situation. We are bringing my parents to WDW in September. My mother has Multiple Myeloma and las been given two weeks to live so many times we don't pay attention to the Drs. anymore. With that said, she gets around pretty good. She is only 55 and still keeps the kids for me and loves to bake cookies with them. Her favorite activites are shopping & dining out and if you asked her about the cancer she'd tell you, "This won't be the death of me."
I have a very relaxed schedule planned for my parents. They will eat with us arrival night. Rest the next morning, join us in Epcot (Mom in an ECV) for dinner and Illuminations that night, rest the next day while we are at MNSSHP and then head back home the next day. I really would like for this to be a magical and memorable time with both my parents and was wondering the same thing, should we let Disney know the circumstances?
