Okay- my son has chosen a school that we can not afford, nor can we get enough of a loan to go there. He is writing a scholarship essay with no particular guidelines. We turned it into (I hope) a witty infomercial about him.

We've been told we need a witty and catchy opening statement, but can not come up with anything. Would any of you mind sharing a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing? We would be greatly appreciative!

I wrote my essays based on a favorite book, and my opening statement was about how I walked into the bookstore, knowing exactly what I wanted, very much a narrative style.

If you're doing an infomercial type essay, I'd suggest an infomercial type into. Something along the lines of, "Ever have a problem trying to stay awake while reading scholarship essays? Don't you hate it when you read the same basic info over and over again? Well, finally, we have a solution for you! Allow me to present..."

You can't say that wouldn't grab their attention :rotfl:

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your suggestion!
