Hi wonderful DIS peeps.

This is a new one for me. I ran into a guy in VMK whose signature read:

Thinking about end in my life
Thinking about end in my life

I approached him and asked him about his sig and he said it was true.

I asked him if I could help him, or be his friend. He said he already has a lot of friends, but another wouldn't hurt. So he added me to his friend list.

Then he was off into a Pirates game. After that game, he dc.

What the heck do I do now?

Wow 0_o who would want to do a crazy thing like that? I mean I once did then I talked to a counseler and they helped me out and now I think it's crazy to do such a thing!

That is strange. Kinda moniter him a bet. Just check if he's on when your on. It may be just for shock value. Also, try be nice to him alot.

You might also try reporting it. VMK might want to know...particularly if he's a minor.

People who feel like committing suicide don't go on VMK and tell it to everyone, it seems like a plea for attention.

I would report it to vmk - even if he doesn't mean it, his signature is inappropriate. I reported someone who said they were going to shoot themself. The note back was a thank you for helping to keep vmk safe.

To make sure you do what you can- I would report it to vmk

But as Maliboomer said- this is more than likely a plea for attention- then an actual call for help to prevent a suicide

If you do see this person again tell them you are thinking about them and feel they should speak to someone in real life since you can't really do much in the game for them

Then don't worry too much about it- I know hard to say- but if you worry and fret over too much like that it can get to be too much

i dont really think either of those signatures were bad.. everybodys and every signature is acceptable as long as it doesnt affend or hurt anyone, and its a freedom of speech, and he is maybe not saying a lie, some are for attention, but mostly people just need someone to talk to..

Freedom of speech doesn't really apply here as the game is extremely limited in its "speech." The game is supposed to be family friendly...and it's clearly aimed at a younger crowd. So attention getting or something else, the signature is still inappropriate for a family/kid friendly game.

I bet he is just going through a hard time, i'm sure he'll pull through but don't keep saying " do u need help?" cause that can get some ppl mad.

I agree, In my opinion, if you are really serious about doing that, you wouldn't tell people, especially not to little kids who may be playing the game. I'm 75% sure that he is either looking for attention or using this as a ploy to get free items from people who pity him.

Also, freedom of speech does not really mean what so many people think it means. It doesn't mean that you can just run into say a hospital or a police station and yell "I have a gun and i'll shoot you all!!" then be like "Oh, just kidding... freedom of speech!". It doesn't work like that especially not in VMK. In the VMK values, it clearly states the things you can/cannot talk about in the game. In this particular case, however, I don't think he is violating any values set by VMK. VMK may want to know as this is a kid's game and it may not be good for a child to hear/try to copy that.

Well, I have an update.

The person that was the subject of this thread contacted me when he logged back on this past weekend. I was in line for a host room at the time, but he sent me several messages. He wanted to make sure I was the one who had approached him about his signature and then thanked me for talking to him. He said that I was the only one who asked him about his signature and after I reached out to him he was no longer thinking that way. I hung out with him for a bit after he contacted me, and he seems very nice.

I know that there is every possibility that he was looking for attention. But, even if there is only a 5% chance that he was really having remote thoughts like his signature, I am glad to have reached out to him. Totally worth it.

Thanks all for your advice :).
