Hubby and I land at 8pm on a Friday night so I'm thinking it will be closer to 10pm when we get on property via magical express. We plan to book at wilderness lodge but hubby wants to stay at a value resort that first night since we'll go right to sleep when we check in and he wants to save $. Essentially we'll arrive, go to sleep right away, sleep for 8 hours, get up and leave.

My question is...which value should we book? My second question is...how do I convince hubby this is a bad idea due to the pain it will be to wake up the next morning and take our luggage to wilderness lodge and delay park time.

Thanks everyone!!

My first suggestion would be to see if there is a room available at the new Art of Animation in one of the Little Mermaids, standard value rooms. We haven't yet stayed there, but plan to do so in a few months! Honestly I prefer a mod or deluxe since I like time at the resort (i.e. for me it's more than just a place to sleep) but if you can't convince hubby otherwise, then a one night stay in a new resort, might be fun. If rooms aren't available for your dates, then maybe Pop would be a good choice. You could always walk over and check out AOA, if you are not too tired from your arrival. Or you could choose All-stars Music.

This is what we are doing. I had originally booked at Art of Animation, but when fall discounts came out I area lied we could save about $50 by staying at All Stars Music instead. While I'd rather just get settled once (not an option due to resort availability at the dVC we are moving to), this seems like a good way to sad money - especially getting in late and heading out to the parks early that first morning.

I've read Disney will do the luggage transfers for you, and even that you can request bell services at the first resort to hold your DME bags for transfer to the other resort the next morning (obviously, this would only be an option if you didn't need anything from those bags:)). I'm thinking we'll still make it to rope drop the first morning and then just go check into our second hotel that afternoon/evening.

P.s. If all were priced the same we would have done Art of Animation followed by Pop, but for the purpose of this night, the most economical options won:thumbsup2

Why not consider staying at the Hyatt at the Orlando airport then catch the ME to your resort first thing in the morning ;) way more convenient and accommodating.

I would see if the AoA is available any section would be amazing they are all so well themed especially cars. My other choice would be the POP we have stayed there and it is our favorite value but we have not gotten to stay at AoA yet.

Yes. Land, get room service, wake-up early, get on ME, check in and head to park. No changing bags/hotels. I think Hyatt even takes your bags to ME for you.

We booked Pop our first night. I've done this before and never lost any park time. Next morning we wake up early enough to grab our luggage and take a cab to our next resort, do early check in, leave luggage with Bell Service, and we take the bus/boat/whatever transportation to the park, and are there for rope drop. No park time lost.

It's true, Disney will move your luggage, but if you have to go to new resort anyway to pick up your package- park tickets, DDP? Etc, to save time it's easier to cab it.

Either stay at the airport and use DME to go directly to your WDW resort, or stay at a value (I would go with Pop) the night you arrive, using DME. Then, wake up early and get a cab to the resort. IF you get a cab by 7:30, you should be able to get checked in and off to a park for park opening.
If you use a cab, you can bring your bags with you!!! Leave them with Bell Services if the room isn't ready.

All stars is the cheapest. I would check you bags directly to the lodge and just use your carry ons for the first night. Then the next day just jump on a bus and work your way over to the lodge. You bags will be there waiting for you. Or All Stars will just move your bags the morning of, to the lodge. People do spit stays all of the time and Disney does a great job making it painless.

Wow...thanks so much for all of the great advice!

Now...lets say we get an airport hotel the night we land. How would we coordinate our reservations with ME the next morning since we would be landing the night before? I chatted online with a cast member last night and he said we can only use ME the day of our flight. I'm pretty sure he gave me incorrect info though because I have ready virtually everywhere else that ME is only valid on your check in and check out dates at a WDW resort. Which would mean we would HAVE to wait until the next morning to use ME. A little confused here...LOL!:rolleyes1

If you opt to stay at the airport hotel, just give DME information for flight that arrives the next morning at about the time you want to board DME. This is perfectly legal and has been done numerous times by others on this board.

Wonderful...thanks Rich! :thumbsup2

You can not check your bags to WL if you aren't staying there that night. DME will transport bags only to the resort the guest is going to. The bags would go to AllStars and then have to be moved in the morning.

Ok....a fair amount of bad info there. You have to use DME on a day that you have an active WDW owned resort reservation. Now, that can be the day the reservation starts, or it can be three days later. Same for returning to MCO..you can take DME back to MCO on your last resort day, or you can take it back 3 days prior to the end of your resort reservation.
I have arrived on a Sunday, used DME to get to my resort. Then, 2 days later, my dh and dd have arrived and taken DME to the same resort. Other times, we all arrive on the same day, but dh leaves a few days early. Not an issue.

In your case...just make your DME reservation for the day your resort reservation starts. They don't have to have flight info. Stay overnight at the airport, then head to the DME area first thing in the morning. Your bags will go beneath the bus, and handed to you when you reach WL. Simple. People do this all the time!!!
