hi, I'm from the east coast and will be going to be in san diego this weekend for the comic convention. I have made plans to go to disney california/disneyland Friday, (July 15) by myself and just spend the whole day and evening enjoying the rides, shows and the whole disney with a california twist. (i've been to orlando several times, this is the first i'll be on the west coast) I was just curious, how early should i leave my hotel to get to the park? I'll be taking Route 5, i know it's about 2 hours, but how early is it to early? If i were to head out at 6, would that be to late or would that be perfect? My body will probably still be on east coast time so waking up early is no problem. I'll be myself because my brother has to be at the convention, so getting on rides should not be a problem. (single lines, fastpasses, no kids to slow me down like previous family trips) I would welcome any other advice.

thanks!
michael

The drive for us from San Diego to Disneyland is about 1 1/2 hours without traffic. But on a Friday morning, you'll have traffic to contend with. By leaving at 6, you should miss most of the heavy stuff through the Sorrento Valley area, and you will be going against traffic until Orange County. I cannot vouch for the Orange County traffic on the 5 north through to Anaheim. Also, there is a border patrol check point at the county line, by San Onofre, and sometimes there's a traffic backup there too.

All things considered and since this is the big anniversary week at Disneyland, you might want to leave earlier, not only to beat OC traffic, but also to park, go through their bag check, and get your ticket. Disneyland's going to be crowded, so the earlier the better, esp if you are still on east coast time!

Have fun! :sunny:

You should be alright if you leave at 6. I agree that the drive takes an hour and a half. If you really want to play it safe, leave at 5:30 though. Have a great time!

If you leave San Diego at 6:00 am, my best guess is 2 hours+. You will probably stop at the border check in San Clemente and will hit traffic from Mission Viejo to Anaheim.

I'll leave at 5:30, that should be plenty of time. Worse case, i get there to early and wait in the parking lot. I already have a hopper pass that i prebought a few weeks ago.

thanks
Michael
