Is there any way to lower the price? We are flying into one city and out of another (actually a state away) and the car rental would be as much as our flights. Yikes! I understand why they don't want people doing it, but is there any way to save $$ on this?

TIA!

Terri

I know what you mean. :headache: Unfortunately, it's been that way for quite a while. Drop off fees are killer. Sometimes a rental car company will have a special where they don't charge a drop off fee; just have to google for it. But more than likely . . . you will have to pay it. Used to be you never paid drop off fees in Florida, i.e. pick up at Orlando airport, return to Tampa airport, but now they sometimes even charge for that.

What are the particulars....

Picking up in Tulsa, doing the middle segment of Route 66, so probably returning in Abq, probably 10 days, most likely over Memorial Day 2015. Would save us three days of driving, but not going to spend $4-500 to do so!

The last section the next year won't be so bad, because from my research we can pick up in Vegas, drop off in CA with no extra fees, due to a reciprocity between those states.

Thanks...

How funny . . . I live in Tulsa. We did the Route 66 trip to Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and around this 4th of July weekend. I was never able to find a decent rate for a one-way rental so we just ended up driving the whole thing. I suspect Oklahoma doesn't have reciprocity with any states.

I want to rent car 12/20 to go from WL to Delray Beach and turn car in....

Not sure whether to rent at MCO when we arrive on 12/16 and keep til we get to Delray Beach on 12/20 or try to rent on the 20th when we are ready to check out...and then just drive to Delray Beach n return.

Also would it be feasible to rent on property or go back to airport just to rent car?

Just plug in the various plans and see what rate works better. It is what we did last year on a trip to California. We needed a car to go round trip to Huntington Beach from San Diego. It was cheaper to rent from Hertz at the Hotel Del Coronado where we were staying with a drop off at Hertz at the Grand Hyatt San Diego (last night of trip) and then taxi to the airport . Our first plan was to taxi to/from the airport Hertz location but we ended up saving over $100+ because of airport fees at their airport car rental location before factoring the taxi costs. Due to the parking fee at the Hyatt the taxi to the airport on the last day was always part of the plan
