To maximize my WDW time...I would like to fly in and stay in a cheap yet nice hotel close to MCO (a pool would be great for the kids) and also stay until close our last night and then drive to the airport and fly out the next morning.

Any good ones you can reccomend?

I'd suggest going for a 3* room in the MCO area on Priceline. They book at the Holiday Inn Select, Rennisance, or Marriot by the airport or the Hyatt in the airport. All are nice (haven't stayed at the Marriott, but it gets good reviews, the others are very nice), all have pools and free airport shuttle service. Depending on your dates you can usually get a room at one of them through Priceline for$40/night or less.
We often do what you are doing (fly in late and out early) and will take the shuttle to the hotel when we arrive, I get up the next AM and take the shuttle back to the airport and pick up the rental car while the rest of the family gets up and ready for the day...and then do the reverse when we go home...it saves a couple of days of car rental (we usually do a week at WDW and the night on either end near the airport so we can just rent the car for 1 week and get our full extra day at Disney)

We had the same idea!

I would recommend Embassy Suites Hotel Orlando Airport. They have a free 24 hour airport shuttle, suites that sleep 6 with seperate bedroom, two televisions, microwave/fridge, complimentary cooked to order breakfast and a nice pool from what I've seen from their website. We got a rate of $89 a night for a standard suite (we're a family of 5).

I figure since breakfast is included, it's a pretty good deal. We've stayed at Embassy Suites out here in California a few times and have always had a good experience.

I just booked the one you were talking about, Castillo Mom! They had a special for $89, which includes a Scooby Doo for the kids! Its called the Scooby Doo Retreat. With taxes, it came to $99.23. We were going to be paying $209 + tax, (club level) which would have come out to $233 + the $6 parking fee @ the Royal Pacific (Universal) + the first day's mini van rental would have been about $50 with taxes/fees, so we are saving about $190 by staying at the Embassy! Thanks!! Kelly :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Scooby rate? I was just on the website and did not see it.
What dates was it for?

never mind- I found it-not available for my date. FYI- If you have AAA, you can get that for $80, but no scooby toy

I'm not part of AAA, but thanks anyway! My kids will be thrilled with the surprise at check in, so I'll stick to what I have, but thanks! ; ) Kelly:Pinkbounc

We just returned and used this hotel for one night before driving to Port canaveral.
Very Clean, nice rooms (average size), Free shuttle to airport, average Continental breakfast,
There was a pool that appeared clean (outside) but we arrived at night and did not have time to use it.

We got a $53 dollar rate off the internet onetravel.com. Its a prepaid room so you can't cancel.
Would definately recommend and will use in future.

We just did the same thing as far as flying out very early on our return home. I used Priceline to bid on a 3* at the airport for our last night. I had done my homework and knew all the Priceline 3*'s have free shuttle service, and all had gotten good reviews, so it didn't matter to me which one I actually "won". We ended up at the Renaissance for a bid of $28.....$32.xx after all taxes!! It was a very nice room.....larger than the one we had just left at the Dolphin......and the bathroom was huge! Pretty decor and Queen sized beds which were very soft and comfortable. Their shuttle runs every 1/2 hour and took about 10 minutes to get us to the airport (Courtyard shares the shuttle with Renaissance, so they had to pick up at both places). Have absolutely no complaints about this hotel!

I did Priceline and got a room for $40. Not as good as some of you...but I was happy. I tried $30, but didn't get one for that. Thanks for the tip on that SB in KY ;)

I got Holiday Inn Select Orlando International Airport (the longest hotel name ever ;) ) Has anyone stayed there? I got it for both the nights I needed.

We stayed there last spring for 1 night when we had a late flight in...don't remember how much we paid (it was Priceline bid) and we got it again for our November trip this year ($30 + $10 bonus). I had no complaints. The shuttle was very prompt picking us up at the airport, nice lobby, quick checkin...got the room type we requested. I honestly don't remember much about the room (I think we had everyone in bed and the lights out about 10 minutes after we arrived!!). But as I recall it was a little nicer than I expected. We did not eat there or use the pool, so I am not much help. We were gone by 9AM the next morning. The bathrooms were average, but I do remember my daughter commenting on the fact that she liked the towels, because they were bigger than usual and very soft.
In other words it was fine for the under $50/night we paid via priceline...fast shuttle, saved a day of car rental, nice staff that gave us what we asked for. Not much, but I hope it helps.

I am thinking about using Hotwire for my airport stay. If you use betterbidding.com, you can at least guess at which hotel you will get.
I think the Sheraton suites are on there for $40(not sure of Hotwires fees tho)

If you pull up the list of hotels on Hotwire for your dates and select the one you are interested in they give you the final cost including taxes and fees before you get to the screen where you have to enter your info....haven't ever bought through them, but it is tempting to know you can pretty well identify what you are getting ahead of time.

Thanks so much for your tips! We decided to fly in the day before at a later time and stay at an airport hotel. We would save about $40 a ticket by doing this! Well worth the price of a priceline hotel night.
