My vacuum is on its way out. I now have a bissel. It is bagless and pops out so when you do the stairs you do not have to lug the whole vacuum up/down. I really liked this one but it gets over heated and turns off.
I need a new vacuum. One floor of the house has carpet and the living/dining room has wood floors with area rugs. I was looking into the oreck but will have to get a canister one for the wood floors, etc.
Any suggestions? I do not want to spend an arm and a leg on a new one but want one that is going to last. I would prefer a bagless one since I have that now and can not imagine how quickly the bag would fill up because I am constantly dumping out the canister where the dirt/dust is in.
Thanks for any help

We have a Hoover windtunnel which is nice, it has auto-propel so it is easier to push. It has a bag, idk if they make a bagless variety. If I had to buy a vac now, I would get a Dyson. They are pricey but everyone I know who has one absolutely LOVES it!

I'm in the same boat! DD got a sock caught in it yesterday:eek:I go to Walmart and pick whatever Hoover upright is on sale. I think this one was $69 and it's probably 7 years old:thumbsup2We'll move this one out to the garage and use the hose attachments for vehicle vacuuming. I know there are pricey ones out there, but I have only basic vacuuming needs (no inside pets) and can't see spending $$ on a boring chore!

I agree, don't want to spend a fortune. Don't have pets either.
I will look into the dyson just to compare. Wonder if they have onboard attachments. That is a plus.
Thanks

Well I had a dyson and when it died a slow death I got another Oreck. The one we had before the dyson. It's just a better machine imho. As for the "not cloggin bull dyson sells it CLOGS! I had the pet hair one and the pet hair would get caught in the TUBES - and the top wind tunnel thing. I would be constantly cleaning it.
I was cleaning my vacuum! Ridiculous- so I went back to my super light very efficient Oreck! And I'm not going back!

Check the warranty on your Bissell before you buy something new. I was surprised to find out that my Bissell Healthy Home has a 5 year warranty.

I had to use my warranty last year, and I wasn't asked for the receipt. Maybe that's because it was a 5 year warranty, and the product hadn't been in existence for that long. :confused3

Here's a good forum thread that recommends different vacuum cleaners: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/652989

I LOVE my dyson! I've had 2 and I do have pets and neither one of my Dysons has ever gotten clogged. The work fabulously!

I clean spec homes for a local builder and so I do a lot of vacuuming!!! Earlier this week I bought a $39 Bissell at WalMart and I LOVE IT....It is very lightweight and cleans great!!! I had been using a Bissel bagless that was $69 at WalMart for about 2 years and the attachment hose split. I figured for $39 I would give it a try and it is WONDERFUL.

I have a Dyson and I HATE it!!!!! it does not suck worth a darn. It takes me 20 minutes to do the carpet in my bedroom because I have to keep going over and over.. I can't wait for the darn thing to just die - I am thinking sledge hammer

Ok, I just finished my search. I read allot of reviews on different vacuums online but then I decided to take my search to the store. I went to Kohl's to look at luggage and they had a huge selection of vacuums. DH was with me and he lifted the Dyson down off the display, I tried lifting it but IT WAS SO HEAVY. My new home has allot of carpeted stairs and I wanted something that not only did a fab job but was lightweight. I have had them all from the Hoovers to the Dirt Devils to the Bissells to the Eurekas etc etc. So, I decided right there Dyson was now on the NO list.

A good friend called me to chat (she has two cats and a bad back) and I happened to ask her what vacuum she uses. ORECK, hands down as she said it does a fab job and is VERY LIGHTWEIGHT for stairs. Pet hair is not an issue as I have no animals.

So, now my search was strictly ORECK and I wanted to find the best vacuum for me. I went to TARGET as they sell Oreck's. I bought the SILVER XL!! $299.00 and comes also with a small light weight cansister type vacuum.

Right now through March 21st 20% OFF!!!

Good luck, OP, and HTH!!! :goodvibes

Thank you for all of this research. Now my question to you is. Did you buy the vacuum at target or oreck online? I see that it is 299 is that before or after the 20% discount.
Thanks again

Same thing happened to me about two months ago. I did a little research (read reviews on Amazon, etc) and ended up getting a Shark ( of a Dyson knock off) $199 at BB&B and $169 after using a 20% off coupon. So far both of us really like it. It really sucks, in a good way! I especially like that you can "unclip" the cannister from the main body and not have to clean out the entire vacuum like my previous Hoover wind tunnel, bagless.

It also has several attachment cleaning tools including a nice option for picking up cat hair. So far, very impressed, especially by the cost.

 Unfortunately, OP, I was unale to take advantage of the deal as I bought my Oreck on 3/7/10 ... and that deal started just last week. I just realized the deal ends TODAY. I believe you would need to buy it online (they ship FREE) or at an Oreck store. I do not believe Target offers its customers Oreck's deal. :headache:

Anyway, IF you were to buy it online by today you will save $60.00. :scared1:

Good luck.

My vacuum died and we picked up the Shark Navigator (can't post links yet due to low post count, but we got it @ target). BY FAR the best vacuum we've ever owned. I had just done the floors 3 days before (when it died - it overheated, never lost suction though) and of course I HAD to try the shark when we got home. You should have SEEN the crud that was vacuumed up - and the rug was just vacuumed 3 days before!!!!! I was floored (and a bit grossed out LOL!)

Picked up a Bissell upright last night at Walmart for $39.99 and fabreze type 7 bags (3) for $5.38. I'm pleased.
