Any recommendations? I would like it to be a similar type to the S3. I have a P&S small compact one but I want a better one for special events, trips, etc. I also use it to help with pictures for my kids' school yearbook. any advuce is welcome!

Thanks!

Hi Caseyem67,
I used an S3-IS for years. Its a nice light-weight camera that takes "fairly good" pix. I just passed it down to my DD and bought a Canon 60D (w/18-135 lens). It was a really good move bumping up to a dSLR (for me). Just being able to change lenses and a larger sensor (18mpix) was awesome. I got the 60D because I got a great deal, but I initially went after the T3i, but the T2i would have been fine too. Another factor is the 60D and the 3Ti will take Hi-Def movies.
(**NOTE**) I am not - in any way - an expert!! I'm just a former S3-IS user who is happy with his new dSLR...

Look at the budget you have. List out the features you want... size, video, RAW, focal legnth range, aperture range, do you want to stay p&s or go mirrorless or DSLR... things like that. Once you have all that, it should help you find your short list. Then research those cameras. Go to teh store and play with them, figure out which one fits you. Becasue we can all tell you what we like to use, but it's hard to know what you'd enjoy using.
