Ok so I might get flamed by some college professors for this- but oh well. I am trying to figure out what to tell my college professors in Sept when I miss a week of school. I am not taking any hard courses this fall :teacher: , so me missing a week really is not a big deal. I really rather not tell them I am going to Disney World, just because many do not understand. I don't expect an excused absence, I'm not going to lie, but I was thinking about just saying that I had to go out of state for personal reasons. lol! :goodvibes

Anyone been in this situation?

I'm going in Sept to and was wondering what I could tell my pharmacy school professors! lol.

When I went in February, I told them that I was going to a wedding at Disney World. That might be my excuse again, or I'll say that it's my parents anniversary or something.

My prof's didn't really have a problem with it. I had a paper due the week I was gone so I handed it in a week early. Other than that, it all went off without a hitch :goodvibes

Yeah I am really worried about something being due, or a quiz, or whatnot-in college every 5% counts!!!! lol. It's worth it though. In most classes I have taken, they drop the lowest scores... hopefully it will be that way in the fall.......

Anyway, looks like we are going to WDW at the same time! My Dfi and I will be staying at coronado springs for the first time. We are excited, normally we stay at Pop.

Anytime I had to miss college, I always just tell my professors I have to go out of town for "family reasons" :rotfl: Which, IS true since I do go with my family:upsidedow

I always handed in my stuff early or some told me not to worry about it until I returned.

I am missing my first week of class to be in the world. I will be missing a history and gym, not that bad as my Math class starts the following week because of Labor day and my other class in online.

I am going to e-mail them and say I am out of town and cant be back till the next week due to personal reasons.

Full disclosure - I am an academic advisor at a college and I also teach. No flames here though.

My best advice to you is to keep it simple but truthful - You are going out of town and will need to miss class from date X to date Y. You would like to know what you can do ahead of time - turn in work early, etc... in order to minimize the impact of your absence.

I always tell my students that it is not WHY you miss class but WHAT you do about it that really matters. Do as much ahead of time as you can - turn in work early, talk to professors and expect that they will be some things (pop quizzes, etc) that you won't be able to make up. Plan to not miss any other classes that semester if you can. Be as responsible as you can about it and generally professors are so happy that you are being responsible that they will cut you some slack if they can.

Good luck and have fun!

i don't think professors really care that much. i mean, you're paying them to teach you. i would just say exactly what penguinwaiters suggests. they don't have to know more than they should, unless you plan on leaving school every other week or something, then i'm sure they would get suspicious... but since it's just a one time vacation. tell them that you'd like to know your work before hand (if they even know what they were going to assign) i mean, even in the best case senario you'd end up being ahead because lessons always tend to take longer than the professors plan on.

Great advice Peguinwaiters and iggbees! I do plan on just keeping it real and trying to turn in things early. Lucky for me, my trip is early in the semester so it's not as painful as it being in the middle! :)

Thanks again!
