My daughter is thinking about coming to live with us so she can pursue her dream to study marine biology and ultimately work at Sea World. I think I've mentioned that she was never big on Disney World :scared1: When we'd come down here and she was old enough, I'd let her take off for SW by herself for the day. She'd go as many times as her finances would let her. One time she went and spent the entire day at the dolphin pool. :teeth:

Any of you long term central Florida people have suggestions on a good school that isn't too pricey? That might be an oxymoron. I'd love to see her get into this field she's dreamt about since she was 9 years old. I wonder if Sea World has a college program like WDW?

TIA! :goodvibes

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, since it's not in Central Florida and she couldn't live with you, but the University of West Florida in Pensacola has a great marine biology program, and at least she wouldn't be too far away.

The Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne has a good Marine Biology Program. I actually studied Marine Biology there for a while, before I changed majors. I lived in Melbourne, but I worked at Disney world. The drive is about 1.2 hours.

Will she qualify for in-state tution at Florida public universities?

I could be completely wrong about this, but I recall UCF in Orlando having a marine biology program.

One thing to keep in mind if you want her to qualify as an in-state student is that she will have had to establish residency for a period of time. You would have to check into that with the school.

The good thing about the state university system in Florida is that it's a pretty good value compared to other states. That being said, they tend to be pretty strict on the residency issue.

Check out this site for more info:

Hope that helps!

WHAT?! UCF has that program?! Hot dog....I'm gonna check that out now!!!

What about U of Tampa? I remember them having a pretty good program. Honestly though, if she is looking for one of the best she should go down to University of Miami.

They are a pricey private institution though.
