Need a 1-Day Rental Car in Middle of Trip - Logistics

I will need to rent a car for 1-2 days in the middle of our trip. We are staying at POP Century and plan on using Disney transportation for 99% of our transportation. However we have friends that live about an hour away from Orlando, and we will need to rent a car to visit them for the day.

I'm guessing we'll have to get to Downtown Disney to get a rental car - Bus from POP to one of the parks, and then a bus from the park to Downtown Disney - then pick up the car ... then do the reverse when we take the car back. Seems like a head ache and alot of travel time to get to the car rental and back.

Any suggestions?

Take the bus to HS then walk or boat to the Dolphin rental counter.

Or call the Car Care Center, they'll send a shuttle to pick you up (and drop you off after you return the car).

I just made a reservation the other day for a passenger van for 1 day during our stay. We want to take a day off in the middle of our trip and go to Gatorland. CCC opens at 6am and has free shuttle, but closes at 8pm and no shuttle after hours. Dolphin doesn't open until 8am, open until 4pm, but you can drop off car with valet any time. Would have to take taxi to Dolphin. We decided on renting from Dolphin since we can drop car off at any time. Tried to pick up at CCC and drop off at Dolphin, compact car rental was cheaper, but van was twice as expensive!
