Necklace for a 2yo?

I was looking at the pick-a-pearl thread and was thinking about getting a pearl necklace for my dd2. Do you think she's too young? She LOVES jewelry. She has a gold hawaiian bracelet with her hawaiian name, another silver bracelet, and a jade (which is worn for old family superstition...).

Dh is afraid she'll choke herself on it. That just gets me thinking of everything bad that could possibly happen while she's wearing it. Maybe I could let her pick one out and save it for when she's older. But then, how do you know when they're old enough?

I know that we have a TON of pearl factory's here in hawaii, but I think having a pearl from Disney is something really special. My sister and I love to pick pearls, we have jugs filled with them! I think it might be cool for her to tell people she got her pearl from WDW rather than Waikiki.

I don't think she's too young for you to buy her a necklace, but I personally would put it away for her until she was older. My 10 year old still isn't responsible enough with her jewelery. I keep the "good" stuff in my dresser and she keeps the costume stuff in hers.

We do the pick a pearl each trip although my DD just puts away the pearls in a little box she has. It's a nice tradition.

Aloha! Yes, I would get it for her, but keep it until she's much older. My DD 5has lots of costume jewelry and it always gets broken one way or another. I have some pieces that have been in my family but she will have to wait on, I would hate to lose or have them get broken. She doesn't understand just yet how to handle something that's valuable. It's all the same to her, no matter how many times I may tell her she needs to take care of it.
