We are going to WDW next year as a surprise for our 3 kids(10,7,5). We do not know how we want to spring it on them.

One idea was to give it to them as a Christmas gift. Which brings me to 1 question. When you make a reservation will you get anything in the mail from WDW that could be put in a box and wrap it up?

Another idea was to just pack the car and tell them we were just going away for the day. But we figured once we get to the airport they would figure it out, well at least the older DD would.

We want it to be a surprise, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.:santa:

The first time we went, we did a scavenger hunt. At the the end, they found a box with autorgraph books & pens, an Epcot passporter, a Disney t-shirt, and the plane ticket confirmation. I had shopped online for all of that beforehand. Disney does also send confirmations ahead of time.

we bought some santa hats that had mickey ears on them -- we got them at Walgreens -- and wrapped those up for each of our kids. When they opened the hats, they put them on -- discovered they had ears and then said "these would be great at Disney".........and then both of them looked at us with big eyes and we said "They sure would! We leave in 2 weeks"

Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful time.

don't know if I'd go for the surprise, with your children's ages, they might want to do some reading up or pack certain items for a trip to Ddisney World. I know myself, I take different things to Disney that I wouldn't take other places. Just a thought, or you could pack all they would want or need. Hummmmmm.

For our trip to WDW in September, I think we're just going to wake the kids up at 4:30 a.m. and tell them we have to be at the airport in an hour. ;o)

It is KILLING me keeping this a secret!

We are also surprising our boy for his B-Day with a trip. He is a huge Phineas and Ferb fan, so I made a T-shirt(using an iron-on tranfer image I printed off my computer that a nice person on DisBoards Creative Design thread designed for me)with those characters saying, "We're going to celebrate Jack's Birthday at Disney". I'll have the shirt wrapped in a box and when he opens it and reads the shirt...voila---he'll have a huge surprise as we drive to the airport!:yay:

If you type Disney Christmas Surprise in You Tube you will see alot of ways people surprise their kids with Disney Trips. We surprised our two little girls last year and it was great. My husband made up a poem which ended with the "surprise" news. The poem was attached to a big Mickey helium balloon that we had inside a big Mickey gift bag. When they opened the bag the balloon floated out with our tickets and the poem attached.

We are surprising my DD in 3 weeks for her birthday. I will pick the kids up from school and go to the airport. The story is we are flying from Dayton to Cincinnati for dinner. (Hoping she won't catch onto the connecting flight.) My DH will check our suitcase in Cincinnati and meet us at the Cincinnati airport we will then give her a card wishing her a happy birthday in Walt Disney World before we all board the Orlando bound plane.

It is a long story how this all came to be, but the tickets were 100.00 cheaper/each to do it this way (Dayton) so I booked the girls and I. Then the prices dropped from the Cincinnati airport and DH could get off work to accompany us. :goodvibes

Have a great time planning your surprise.

Thanks. Those are all great ideas. This will be fun planning a WDW surprise trip.

We have a letter we write to our children from Mickey. Please allow me to rephrase: Mickey Mouse invites our children to Walt Disney World via a letter. The envelope and letter have Mickey Mouse stickers. Mickey also includes a countdown calendar. Our children have the opportunity to cross off a day every night before they go to bed. On the outside of the envelope, Mickey writes our children's names and our address in Walt Disney's handwriting (i.e. look at the Walt Disney World logo). Mickey also includes specicially-tailored instructions for each child.

Here is the text of a letter:

Oh, boy! I hope you are doing well. Things are great in Orlando, Florida. I miss you because I have not seen you since you came to Walt Disney World two years ago. I am writing to invite you to Walt Disney World for an eight-day vacation from (insert date)!

I have a room in the Port Orleans resort already set aside for you. Port Orleans resort is much nicer than the hotel you stayed at last time. Walt Disney World rules say you have to stay in a bigger and nicer hotel now because ________ is three years old and a big girl now! Port Orleans resort is a giant hotel with a river, a big water wheel, pools, water slides and a lot of pretty trees. Your hotel room has two beds. One of these beds is a trundle bed that has a bed on top and a bed that magically pulls out from underneath the bed. Your parents will sleep in the bed by the window, and the three of you will sleep on the other bed or the trundle bed. I will make sure the bathroom has soap and shampoo with my picture on it. Instead of flying to Orlando like other times, you and your parents will get the opportunity to drive all the way to Walt Disney World! You will get to see the beautiful states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia on the way to Florida. Some of my friends from the Country Bear Jamboree are from those states.

When you come to Walt Disney World, you will get to visit the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom. Do you remember my secret? My favorite place is the Magic Kingdom, but remember—do not tell anybody because it is a secret! You will also get to eat at Chip and Dale’s restaurant, Mary Poppins’ breakfast restaurant, Chef Mickey’s, (my restaurant), one of the Princess restaurants and many more restaurants! I will make sure the restaurants have lots of ketchup. You always eat so much ketchup when you eat at our restaurants!

If you want to visit me at Walt Disney World, I need you to follow these rules:
(1) Listen to your parents and teachers and do what they tell you to do;
(2) Clean your rooms, help keep your house clean and sell toys and clothes you do not need anymore so you have some money to buy some of my souvenirs (that is a fancy word for toys, clothes and other stuff you buy on vacation);
(3) ________: Be nice to your brother and sister and help them at all times;
(4) ________: Work hard at school and practice saying and writing your words;
(5) ________: Do not play in the toilet or sink and make sure you go pee-pee in the potty;
(6) Stay close to your parents at all times so you do not get lost;
(7) Help your parents save money for the vacation; and
(8) Eat more fruits and vegetables (you need to be healthy and strong to walk around Walt Disney World).

Can you pals do that? That is swell! See you at Walt Disney World (insert date)!

Sincerely,

Mickey Mouse

P.S. Look inside for a surprise!

Obviously, the letter below works for younger children. You still might be able to adjust the surprise. You could have the letter sent to the youngest child and instruct the youngest child to invite the older chidlren, you could inform the odler chidlren in another manner and have them help Mickey write a letter to the youngest child, etc.

My nieces were 6 and 8 when they first visited Disney World. My sister and I purchased Disney Dollars -- cute $5 bills with characters' photos on them -- at a Disney Store and wrapped them up for Christmas. When they opened them, the older said, "Can we spend these at Disney World?" Little did she know, she was right! They also now had souvenir "Disney money" to spend.

The letter is a sweet idea...especially for younger children. I've made that drive from Indiana to Florida...enjoy the stops along the way!

I've have seen some cute videos on Youtube that show folks surprising their kids (and adults) with trips to Disney. Check it out you might get some ideas.

We just told them we were going on vacation, and drove down. We let them figure it out. They realized where we were going when they saw the sign to Disney Parks like 5 minutes from the MK. They were really excited.

I couldn't believe that we kept it a secret for 2 months.

Our trip is a surprise as well and we go in 23 sleeps and they still don't know:lmao: I have had invitations made for them that we will give them at the airport :woohoo:

Is a great idea. we did it last xmas. Opened presents, had a big breakfast and relaxed. Went back to presents...

Next, we said to kids (7, 10) "we set up a treasure hunt here is the first clue" and we handed each an envelop.

They read clues and went from spot to spot indoors and out finding clues that ultimately spelled out "trip to disney in 7 days!"

They loved it and didn't believe it at first!

Plus, it helps to justify it along with all the xmas spending! Hard part is keeping secret for five months lol.
