Nearmap Walt Disney World Aerial images

Great pics, why didn't they start dismantling catastrophic canyon a year ago to speed things up?

The Solar Mickey was definitely the highlight.

But the soul crushing pragmatist in me has to ask... wouldn't the capacity be far greater if instead of drawing pretty pictures that no one on land can see, they actually filled the area with solar panels?

I know, boring, unmagical... I can't help it.

They probably planned the capacity outlay before they planned the design. If anything I'm willing to bet that they nudged up the panel count to achieve the design rather than nudging it down :).

Is the solar panel mickey actually larger than the hidden mickey forest?

Oh I'm sure they have exactly the capacity they were looking for. I just can't help looking at all the wasted space...

I read somewhere else that the peak output of the farm was 5 megawatts/day, usually more like 2-3, and that's Disney's use was 60 megawatts/day. No idea if it's true. So it's more of a nod towards conservation than anything else. Maybe the publicity from the Mickey shape drawing attention to it will do more good consciousness-raising, and make a bigger difference overall? Maybe that thought can un-crush your soul a little bit. :)

Offsetting any megawatt usage is a very good thing. I doubt this is the last installation they do. I also think there must be plenty of roof space throughout the property that isn't visible to the public.

Check out the aerial images thread. There is even more recent images than that.
What I meant was the latest Nearmap image. But yes I have seen the ones from the helicopters, very exciting stuff. The nearmap is vertical though so it is nice for that reason.
