I wonder if any kind DVCer can tell me which is the nearest international airport from Hilton Head?

Many thanks

Susan

Savannah, about 45 minutes.

I'd say Atlanta is the closest International Airport to Hilton Head. There are a few less well served airports closer to Hilton Head, but I don't think they have International Flights (at least from England) to them.

From London your closest airport is Atlanta. Lots of options there. You can connect there to either Savannah or Hilton Head (HH is a tiny airport so you get tiny planes!)

Tiny planes with the very large fares! In the day before booking flights online, my travel agent would just book me into Savannah. Even with a car rental I would come out ahead of flying into HHI. I remember when they didn't have the new highway and it was kind of pain with the traffic and 2 lane roads getting over to HHI(got the local shortcut from the Budget girl and it did work).

Savannah is by far the closest, but not sure just how "international" they are as far as the actual flights go. Drive time to HH is less than an hour (they also have shuttles if you don't want to drive) vs. almost 4 hours from Atlanta. I'd try to connect through to Sav. if possible. Or through Charlotte directly to HH's on-island airport via USAir/British Airways.

You have been going there as long as I have. (And I remember the summer when the bridge was down to one lane due to a barge hitting it. WHAT A NIGHTMARE LOL!)

Savannah is technically an Intl. airport but I think all flights stopover or change planes elsewhere. Atlanta is really almost 5 hours or so away, Jacksonville is much closer and Orlando is about the same time. I'd try to fly to Savannah if possible in this situation but regardless, one will really need a car. There is a little better service to HH itself lately but likely not enough for most to justify trying to fly there over Savannah for most people.

Thanks for this. It has been very helpful. The four hour drive is a possibility

Just to let you know, we considered driving into Atlanta for our trip to HHI. However, lots of people scared us off because of the traffic coming out of the Atlanta Airport. We were led to believe that the drive from Atlanta would be closer to 5 1/2 hours. Is Charleston an international airport? We're trying that one for the first time on our next trip, so I've got no experience there.

I live in Savannah and my sister lives in Atlanta. I would also say that from the Atlanta airport to HHI is about 5 1/2 hours. It takes me 4 hours to get to her home from Savannah. This allows for 1 lunch stop at a fast food place. I would definitely fly into Savannah if possible, unless you want to visit Atlanta.

Atlanta has a new aquarium that is just beautiful. It is worth a stop in Atlanta. If not, from England you could fly into NY, Phil. etc and get a connection to Savannah. You don't have to connect through Atlanta. A little research will get you the best price and connections.

If you spend a week at HHI, try to spend a day in Savannah. It is a beautiful city with a great tour that leaves from the visitor center. Park your car and take the trolley for the day.

Hope you enjoy your visit to HHI. We spent last weekend out there camping and always enjoy our visits to HH.
