Just had to share my little "heart attack" moment.

Our trip to DLR is less than 6 weeks away. Working on our schedule today, I went to the DL web site to check scheduled open, close, etc. I had last checked just a couple of weeks ago.

Imagine my dismay when I saw that the Haunted Mansion will be closed for refurbishment while we are there!!! ACK! That's probably #1 on our list of things to do!!!

BUT -- joy! Closer review of the schedule revealed that it is OPEN our very first day there and closed the rest.

We hadn't decided whether we were going to the parks on our first day...but this just sealed the deal!

We're regular out-of-season visitors in WDW, and we know that by going out of season we risk missing some of our favorites. I'm just so relieved that this one worked out! :)

When are you going? HM is usually closed around the middle of September so they can put the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay on before the holidays.

ah...that makes sense! Why didn't I think of that in advance?

We arrive on the 7th, which appears to be the last day it's open while we're there.

Oh no! I get there on the 9th so what will I see? This is our very first trip.

You will see a closed HM likely with covering on the gates so you can't see the work they are doing.

If I recall correctly from the calendar on the disneyland website, it closes on the 8th to have the Nightmare overlay put on, and opens on, I think, the 26th as Haunted Mansion Holiday. (this schedule changes slightly from year to year...last year it was closed at the beginning of the month and opened on the 21st, for instance)

I just checked the rehab list and it says HM is closed Sept. 8 to 25 for the holiday overlay so I should be okay as I arrive Aug. 9. I am upset to see that Small World is closed. I couldn't wait to see this one since it was outdoor:sad1:

The facade and the loading area are outdoors. Nothing else. However, you might be able to see some of the facade as they move around the tarps when they finish the rehab projects.

Yep, they are talking about September, not August. So you'll be fine, different month!

We'll be right there with you on 9/7 to at least get one ride in before it closes. I was more bummed out the Aladdin show will be closed as we enjoy seeing what new jokes the Genie throws in.

The HM, closes for that installation, after labor day, in this case, Sept. 08. It is always after labor day, so I have been told, anyway, by DL GS.

Does anyone know if there is ever a "soft opening" for when they are finished applying the HM overlay? I mean, how long could it take???! I would pitch in if it meant an earlier opening! Also, with the Hyperion no longer on the closure list for Sept (at least the dates of our trip 17th -23rd), does anyone know if that means that Aladdin is back on (this might take away some of the sting of HM - our favorite - being down)?

I wonder how many people actually like the nbc theme applied to the HM? I know that I hate it!

I SURE HOPE SO! I am very very happy, since from the beginning of my planning I thought that HM & Aladdin would both be down (and then there was that brief Indy scare! aaaah!)...but we are arriving 9/3, so its been good news after good news! So yeah, I really hope Aladdin will be open - its one of the things I really want to see, and I don't know how much longer it will be there! (So, it was a fantastic surprise hearing that it might be open, after I had began accepting that it wouldn't be, hehe)

We love it! Especially the graveyard scene with all the snow, it's so festive. I'm not even that in to NBC all that much, but do like the ride decorated in it.

I just cannot take it, much less accept it, never have, never will.

I do like the idea of snow in the cemetery, for Halloween and Christmas.

Anyone that does like it, (nbc overlay) I don't hold it against them. But boy, some people, not so far here, but elsewhere, sure have held it against me.

Hey, everyone has there preferences. I love the original too, and if I didn't go at least once a year, I would be bummed if I couldn't see the original. We've gone twice in October now with my Mom, so she hasn't seen the original now in over 15 years!! That is a crime! LOL

I can't handle most hard rides, and couldn't stand rides like Space Mountain. I ended up rolled in to the corner, holding my stomach the whole time. LMBO So no I sure don't hold anything against anyone for not liking certain rides. LOL

I remember last year, when reading the warning sign for Space Mountain, thinking, hmm, I am not exactly in the shape that I would prefer, so maybe I should not go on this ride? I already had second doubts about it, luckily, I never could get a fast pass for it, so good!
I know that for some people, it is not a matter of how good of a shape that they are in, but rather, simply the affect that x ride can have on you.
Last year, I rode TOT, well I totally love the ambiance of the "hotel", the architecture of the "hotel" the decor, and theming, but man, right before, and I do mean, just before, the ride, stopped, I was looking around to see if there was some way I could get the hell off of this ride!! because it just about made me air sick, I have never felt that way before, not from an air plane, not from any of the other rides (thank god!) but by the time that ride, came to a halt, I turned to my friend and said, thank god, it stopped, my brain feels light headed, and I feel like I am going to toss my cookies!
Maybe I just should wait until I am thinner, like I use to be! I think that had something to do with it, I am not that huge, but I am by no means going to be confused for Kate Moss, either! plus I think I am taller than her, maybe not? whatever, anyway, there is a not so flattering tale! (omg! ugh, and sigh)

I love the HM, it is just that particular overlay, that I do not care to see in person, as applied to the mansion, if it was to be elsewhere, not NOS, but somewhere else, in DL or DCA, I probably would be fine with it, temporarily, I still believe, that if nbc overlay is so popular, then why not just create a ride for it? seriously, (again, not in NOS, it just does not belong there!)

Gisele, first let me say that I completely respect your thoughts and opinions about the NBC overlay. Your entitled to your opinion, speak your mind sista! :thumbsup2

Now heres mine: Im a little thrown back by people who claim to "hate" the overlay and despise it alltogether being that its only temporary.

For the handful of people that loathe the overlay...there are many more that love it, and love the change-up for that matter. Brings a sense of change to the norm allbeit temporary.

My advice? Don't go there at that time. Plain and simple. ;)
