NC Inexpensive retreat or house for Christmas Week

Does anyone have any good ideas on a place in NC, preferably with an hour or two of Raleigh area that we could rent for 4 or 5 nights so the family can be together for Christmas?

It would need to sleep about 8-10 people. We can bring our own linens if necessary but I would like an equipped kitchen so I can prepare meals.

We started out thinking a pet friendly would be best as between the families there are 3 golden retrievers but with deposits and fees the prices are going sky high!

Any one have any places in mind? We used to go to a University run retreat center and take in all the foreign students who could not get home but the university gave up the log homes to the national forest and now they appear to not be renting them any more.

Right now we are just looking for a place for our immediate family to gather, cook, eat, play games, and relax for a few days.

sugar or beach mtn is a great family vacation. There are alot of rentals on both mtns. we stay on sugar every year.

If 2 hrs is your max, then I would go on VRBO and look in the Hearland section at the Lake Gaston and Pinehurst areas. If you can go a little furter out, then I would check in the central and Southern Coast areas. Actually, Wilmington is not much more than 2 hrs depending on what side of Raleigh you're leaving from.
