National's Gas Plan - Do you use it?

Even though I have used it a couple of times, I still am not sure whether this is a good deal or not. We usually use the car to drive to DD, AK and the water parks, plus a grocery run or two and maybe out to dinner on Apopka Vineland or somewhere nearby.

Do you think I am wasting money to purchase this at check out time. What do you do?

You pay for a full tank of gas. It's only worth it if you are going to use it all. I've used the rental car similiar to how you described and have never used more than 1/2 a tank. I always stop at one of the gas stations on Disney property before going to the airport and fill up. It's always still on full when we get to the airport, I've never been charged extra. There are stations at the car care center on World Drive, at Boardwalk and across from Downtown Disney. You pay a little more per gallon than off property but it's convenient. Whatever you do, if you don't take the full tank option, be sure to fill it up before returning because they will hit you with a huge price per gallon (more than double the going rate).

I don't think it's worth it. When I'm in Orlando I often drive all over the place several times a day for 4-5 days and I still have a half-tank of gas.

Even if you're able to use a whole tank of gas during your trip, to make the prepaid tank worthwhile you'd have to return the car on fumes. Personally that would make me very nervous!

Yes if you want to take a chance of returning it on fumes. They charge for a full tank. In other words if that car has a 20 gallon tank, you will be charged for 20 gallons.

And at times I have seen prices posted at their counter that was higher than service stations.

I tell them thank you, but no thank you.

And don't take their insurance plans. It's highway robbery. Get a Diners Club card. It is the primary insurance.
