My husband just called National to confirm our reservation for Sept 20 (yes this fri) to find out that they do not accept cash at the airport terminal and the only method of payment they do accept will be a credit card in the drivers name (my husband).BIG PROBLEM!!! I have credit cards in my name but do not drive(I know), he has a credit card in his name but with a limit $4o.00 under the total of the car rental. He does have a credit on his credit card 100.00 over his limit thus having enough to pay for the car without going over but the credit card co. said it will not show up since it is over the credit limit.QUESTION? has anybody had any problems with not being able to pick up their car due to anything like this . I told my husband that we could have them call the credit card co. to verify the REAL availble balance but he is not comfortable with the idea, does not want to stranded with 4 kids in the airport. Any coments would help
Thanks

You will have to pay for the car when it is returned. Call the credit card company and check on the status of the credit and send them out a check to cover the rental. I know my cc gets the payment within a few days. If you are picking up your car on the 20th that will give you 5 days plus the time you are renting for.

You will not be charged until it is returned so you should have enough time to get a payment to them if you get it out asap!

Good luck!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

We already sent in a payment (100.00 over his limit) and it was posted on his account today more than enough to cover the rental. I know they check your card to see if you have a balance but do not bill you untill you return the car. Do you know if they check for the entire balance of the rental or not, (I read somewhere that the driver must have a credit card in their name with at least a100.00 available).I think it will be ok but my husband is concerned that they will refuse to rent to us if the entire balance is not showing. I thought if they have a problem with it they can call the credit card co. to varify. I thinhk he feels that the thought of being stranded at the airport (4 kids in tow) can put a damper on the begining of a vacation.

btw mazzarafe that was a super fast reply, THANKS

jeanneg4of4,

What you can do is give them your DH's card when you take the car and change it to your card at the counter when you return the car. I've had to do this with National because they only take CREDIT cards to rent the car but if I want to put the charge on my DEBIT card, I have to give it to them upon return. You can always change the card they actually charge it to when you return the car. HTH!

my bank offers a prepaid credit card, and I think you can get a prepaid american express card thru AAA. It might be worth checking if something similar is available to you:smooth:

We also have reservations for National Rental. I talked to a representative where we will pick up the vehicle and drop off. I was told we had to put a CC on file when we picked up the vehicle but could pay cash when we returned to drop off. She said we could either pay by CC or cash, just to let them know before they print out the receipt.

Try calling the pick up location and question if you could pay cash when dropping off the vehicle.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip...

I've removed all the posts that had nothing to do with the OP's question. Folks please keep it nice......

I would call National again and make sure this is going to work. I know that some rental companies run a check to ensure your credit card has enough room for the rental and then a few hundred extra. You need to find out what National will want as availalbe credit.

Paying for the car on the return and picking it up are different. You can pay cash or debit on the return, but not always on the rental.

For a normal rental of a normal car he will be fine with his credit card. National just check that my credit card is not stolen (they do not put a credit hold on even $100 let alone the entire rental)

If your husband is under 25 or is renting an SUV or luxury car or for a long period of time then anything could happen - check with National.
