National Emerald Isle/Reserve question

Query: Can I go straight from my flight arrival to the EI/ER and pick my car, take the keys, lock it and then go back down to the luggage area and get my luggage and take it up to my car or do I have to be ready to pull out to the checkout booth in the parking garage when I pick my car?

I don't know the answer for sure, but I think that you should not take the keys until you are ready to load the car and go.
I am guessing that you're concerned with losing your possible first choice? If there are 2 adults, you could have one go pick out the car while the other gets the checked luggage.
They may be concerned to see someone take the car keys and lock one of their cars, only to walk away.

Exactly! I was hoping to short circuit the line (so to speak) and pick out my car and then go and get the luggage and load it. I may just take my teenage son with me to the car and leave him in it while I go back and get the luggage . My wife is not keen on either staying alone with the car or carting the luggage to the car.

I would think your plan could, theoretically, get you arrested.. definitely better to leave someone with the car.

Remember, too, that depending on when you travel, the opposite of your concern could happen-- a BETTER car could come back on the lot within a short time of your arrival. We got a minivan by hanging around for a little while when we couldn't get excited about anything else.

I know people do this because we've selected a car before and loaded everything in the trunk only to get inside and realize there was no key! Very aggravating! Now we know to check for a key when we're making our selection. I don't know if it's really allowed or is right or wrong to do it, but obviously it's been done before.

We've never waited long for our luggage (I'd say 15 minutes), so I have a hard time believing it would really make a big difference. As someone else said, another car may be put on the aisle in that time.
