If you have reserved a full-size car by using an upgrade coupon, you are using an intermediate "base rate" and paying for such, as it shows on your reservation. Nevertheless your reservation is for a full-size.

In this situation are you eligible to take a car from the Emerald Aisle? (e.g. if you don't like what you see on Fullsize aisle, or DO like what you see on Emerald Aisle.)

(Yes I will probably call and ask -- but wondering what you people think.)

Unfortunately you can't use upgrade coupons in conjunction with Emerald Aisle. Your reservation should default to "counter service" if you use an upgrade coupon code.

Dollars-off coupons work fine with Emerald Aisle. You just present them at the exit booth.

Wow, thanks for pointing that out, Mary!

I had just assumed it would still be Emerald Reserve. There is no obvious reason why the reservation would be treated any differently than just reserving a full-size car with a $off coupon, which is what we've always done, and have never gone to the counter. I didn't think it was even POSSIBLE for an Emerald Club member to end up at the counter at MCO! So I didn't check the small print.

Fortunately prices haven't changed much even 2 weeks out, so I was able to get a new reservation with a $off coupon for only $12 more. Well worth it to avoid the counter. Interesting I got the best rate from the Emerald Club code, which came in slightly better than the AMEX 5125601 code, the first time in a couple years that has happened. Other codes gave significantly higher rates.

I used an upgrade coupon at Emerald Isle in Chicago last weekend. I did the reservation on the website...selected a compact...applied coupon, and printed out a standard size 4d(pontiac g6). Picked out a pontiac on the EI and on checkout I gave the coupon to the cashier. I got my bill and it all was ok. That was my first time using EI and National.

I would call and ask National if you are unsure.
