National Car Rental - Pick Up 1 Day Early?

Okay, here's the story. I currently have a reservation with National for a mid-size car for $282.70 with all taxes and fees from 12/27 to 1/5.

We may fly in 1 day early (still leaving on 1/5); however, if I try to modify the reservation to begin on 12/26, the reservation jumps to $1157.11!

Anyone have any experience with this? Would customer service be able to add-on the day at my existing rate? I'm sure I can't just show-up 24 hours early on my existing reservation, can I?

You're best to call. If you show up without a reservation (as in 1 day before your reservation) you are likely going to pay the going counter rate for that day.

If you are lucky. If you are unlucky, you will pay the new going rate for the entire reservation.

Call, but it is possible you will not get anything near your existing rate.

I agree with the previous posters...I looked at Alamo, Budget and Dollar for those dates...very high. You might be better doing a one day rental with National ...then see if they could work with you to keep same car and not have to go back to the airport for second reservation when it starts the next day.IDK if that can even be done.

Using Nationals Emerald discount 5007125 you can get a mid-size for ONE DAY with taxes 78.15. Not cheap but a lot better than the 1100 you saw when you modify existing reservation. That is a starting point...might be able to get cheaper but that is only code I tried for National after thinking doing a one day might be the way to go IF they won't give you the one day rate you have.

How about taking DME to your resort and return the next day to get the car.
