Although I made my car reservations months ago, I figured I'd give it one last ditch effort to see if I could save some more.

Without using any codes or coupons and checking all different size cars, Alamo and National kept saying they were sold out of cars!

Yikes! I'm glad I got my rate at Budget awhile ago--and I thought $188 for a full size for one week was expensive!

Just about all of the car compaines will sell out at one point over that week. It is just amazing!

You picked the 2nd or 3rd busiest week in Orlando. 188 for a full size is a great rate for presidents week.

Now I know why the MK is open until midnight many nights that week!! WOW!

OMG, somebody help me!!
I have been trying for months to get a decent rate from Feb 17-28, now some are sold out!!??
This is going to ruin our vacation if I can't find a car at a decent rate...
HELP!!!

You will be able to get to WDW, honest. Looking at your dates, it seems to me that much of the expense comes from those 'extra' days after you get the one week rental. So, try any/all of the following...

Look into getting one of the towncar services from MCO to WDW/roundtrip. Usually the cost is about $100, you get picked up at the luggage carousel, taken directly to your resort. No hassles with driving, no hassles with stopping(as in 'Mears') at other resorts on the way. Plus, some of the towncar services will give you an included/complimentary stop at a grocery store on the way.
So, you now have a way to get to/from MCO & WDW. But you need a car during your trip, eh?
Make a ressie at National/Alamo's MK Car Care Center location for only a *week*, using every available discount, coupon, etc that you qualify for. Now, you don't have to pay that nasty "Airport Concession Fee", plus often the rates that I have gotten at the MK Car Care Center can be cheaper than the MCO rates.
Hmmm, you say...well, this all sounds really good, but HOW do I get *to* my (now reasonably-priced) car?!?
Simple, just phone up the MK Car Care Enter location & ask for your complimentary shuttle from your WDW resort to the rental location.

Now, there are other car rental places(maybe a National/Alamo at the Swan? plus some other agnecies at the DTD hotels, I think) that you can arrange similar shuttle deals with.

*If* you decide that you'd like to return your car to MCO & just get a one-way towncar from the airport to your resort, that is doable as well. In Florida, by law, you cannot be charged a 'drop-off' fee for dropping off you car at a different place than the one you originally rented from.

Good luck,
agnes!

Well, I was able to get an intermediate car reserved with National for the 11 days for $326, I feel fortunate.
So, they are not sold out yet!!

Great Rate for you!!! Sadly, I think I am giving up on trying to get any decent rates for our trip Feb 22 - Mar 2nd. We really very rarely even use a car while there, but I like having it JUST IN CASE. This time around I am surprising my dh with a Richard Petty Driving Experience and really wanted the car for that and for the occasional meals at Fort Wilderness or other other places (where the transportation can be a bear!). Anyway, I am glad that you were able to get a decent rate ... we have not found anything lower than $470 for 8 days! UGH! :confused3

Stinkerbellsmom---I put in your dates on Alamo's website. Pickup and dropoff at MCO. They have a compact w/ a base rate of $279.60 and a minivan w/ a base rate of $290.44 That is before taxes, after taxes and everything the compact comes out to $349.01. Thats alittle cheaper. That's also w/o any discounts. Check mousesavers for discount codes available to anyone. You might be able to drop that rate alittle more. Also, don't add on the extra insurance. Check your own policy, plus your credit cards. Alamo will do the hard sell, but most times your already covered and it's a waste of money.
