Nation Rental for this coming week ... went WAY down!!!

For a lark today I thought I'd check to see if I could get a better rate for our mini-van rental using National Emerald Reserve. When I punched in the same coupon code and contract code my rate was half of what it was when I booked originally!!!

I booked in February for next week (13th to 21st) and had a rate of $528 total. I expected that as usually it is busy when we travel for March Break. The closer you get it usually goes higher as there is less availability I assume. Anyways we got a rate now of $253.93 .

I couldn't believe it. I've read it over again and again but I did put all the right info there so it has to be correct! Can you believe it??? What a rip the first time!!!

Thanks. I re-checked our reservations for next week and was able to move from a full-size to a minivan AND knock $30 our total rental. I had avoided the minivan when reserving the car a couple of months ago because it was almost twice the expense then.

Now, if I can just make it through the next 7 days.....

I change my Alamo to National, minivan for 8 days $227 out the door with add'l driver (free Emerald Club membership and $40 off coupon). But we can't stand this waiting for another week to go!!!!!

How does the emerald reserve work? I am a Emerald club member ..when I go in and reserve a mini-van under the normal res, my rate for the time period I need is over 1000+ compared to the SAME exact rental period last year which was only 665.97 (same code, etc). Right now I have a Res from ALAMO for 690.00 . I know that Alamo & National are the "same" ( This by the way is in Manchester NH) Last year I got a Mini-van with DVD , I REALLY need that & I know the national fleet has them. I didn't use my Emerald Club contract code when booking. I played around with a few first from Mousesavers. I ended up using a contract code from Car and Driver readers (hahahah ... never read it but that is all you ahve to be - a reader!) ... so anyways with that contract code and the same coupon code as abover ($40 off for the week) ... ND1881JDK. Now I've rechecked and the rate isn't as good as it was when I rebooked, but it is still better then those huge rates you are seeing!!!

This is an online (e-coupon) that was on a recent email to Emerald Aisle members. I've used it several times already this year. You will not be asked for a hard copy.

I agree, but this thread is a little old now and from the beginning of the month and for rentals in March. My trip is 4 weeks away and my rate has been the same since I booked it many, many months ago. I hope in the next few weeks we start seeing some drops, but probably not until after the Easter break.

When you get to the Alamo area, just go to the check in kiosk. It's quick and easy. We rented from Alamo last year and used the kiosk. It prints out your paperwork and you go across to the gargage and pick out your vehicle in the lot. It's pretty easy, plus you can go online prior too and do the "save time" method and get most of your info in earlier. It's worth it for that price.
