Next up in the chase of the 2009 season is Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord NC!

This is the 31st race of the 36 race schedule.

Lowes Motor Sppedway is an oval track with a lap distance of 1.50 miles. The racers will make 334 circuits for a total race distance of 501 miles.

The event is titled "NASCAR Banking 500"

Qualifying is set for THURSDAY OCTOBER 15TH!!! Get your picks made before the qualifying starts.

This is the second race held here this year.

In 5/09, 0we found #39 R Newman on the pole. He really qualifies well here. The race was won by Reutimann.

In 10/08, #48 J Johnson had the fastest qualifying time and #31 J Burton took home the victory.

In 5/07, #39 R Newman led the pack to start but Casey Mears led when it counted the most.

In 10/07, #39 R Newman again had the pole but #24 J Gordon won.

Question for fellow nascar fans:

a couple of mornings ago I was listening to the radio and I heard a guy talking about some changes that are going to be made for next season regarding the tv broadcasting of nascar races. I only caught bits and pieces of it, but it sounded like he said that the races are going to be televised at the same time every single week - 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon - so that fans can have consistency in knowing when the race will be on tv.

This makes me wonder if the races themselves will all be during the day? I have to think not because fans love Saturday night races. If this is the case, it kind of ticks me off because I'm enough of a fan that I actually keep track of when the race is on and if I can't watch it live, I dvr it. It seems almost like they are punishing the hard core fans in favor of trying to capture more of the casual fans. Hard core fans will already know who won a Saturday night race before it's broadcast on Sunday.

Your thoughts?

From what I understand, all the races won't be during the day. But the day races will be starting at the more traditional time, of 1pm. Lately, there has been so much "pre-race" stuff that the actual start times are later- 2-2:30-3pm.

I hadn't heard/read that Sat night races wouldn't be shown till the next day. That would suck!

That makes a little more sense, I suppose. But like you said, with all the pre-race stuff going on, it will mean the fans will have to get to the track plenty early if they want to be in their seat before driver introductions.

I actually prefer it when they start later because 1pm tends to be a busy time for me.

The announcement was made to go back to the old schedule of 1pm starts for east coast (and central time zone) races, 3pm starts for west coast, and 7:30pm for night races. The claim is that Nascar was losing some of the tv audience because the old schedule was consistant and got people in the habit of watching. Sunday meant: go to church, come home, watch race (or whatever). Now people turn on the tv Sunday at 1pm and they may or may not see race coverage. Apparently that was confusing to enough people that they changed it back.

For me, I always had to look up the start time and remind myself what network the race was on this week. It was important enough to me to do that. I guess that's not the case with everyone. I'm sure advertising revenues drove the decision. Most (if not all) the decisions Nascar makes these days seem to be rooted in money. As in how to make more.

Oh, forgot my picks. Doh!

Mark Martin
Jimmie Johnson
Tony Stewart
Kurt Busch
Ryan Newman

Spare: Juan Pablo Montoya (just so Brer Papa doesn't think I've gotten lazy in the typing department ;) )

#48 Jimmie Johnson
#14 Tony Stewart
#24 Jeff Gordon
#5 Mark Martin
#42 Juan Pablo Montoya

Spare – #99 Carl Edwards

I just wish they would pick a network and stick with it! It drives me crazy how they siwtch it around. Personally I don't care what time they race but a consistent time for the Sunday races, as well as the Saturday night races, sure would be nice!

I wish Fox had the full season. The weeks in between Fox and ABC picking up the Chase coverage are miserable. Where is it this week? Who is going to be behind the desk? Bleech.

Spare: Juan Pablo Montoya (just so Brer Papa doesn't think I've gotten lazy in the typing department ;) )

Aaaah....it is MY laziness that comes into question....I think John Paul uses 3 names just to get my goat....I'm surprised he doesn't have 3 numbers on his race car....

On Sunday's edition of "Race Day" on Speed.....the President of NASCAR....his name escapes me for the moment.....

You'd recognize him if you saw him....bushy moustache....hair helmet....

He was on and announced the consisitent times for the 2010 season....

The moderators, JR, J Spencer and K Wallace did everything but genuflect and kiss his as----phalt....

I didn't see the big whoop myself....

As others stated....perhaps a consistent station that broadcast the races would make more sense....and...be more enjoyable....

I hate to say it....but some of the announcers on some of the stations are about as interesting as a bowl of warm pus....

I would rather the crew at FOX get the nod for the year...but hey....that's just my opinion....
