The last third of the 2009 NASCAR season takes us to Hampton, Georgia for the 25th of 36 races.
The "Pep Boys Auto 500" will be held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday September 6th.
Qualifying is Saturday, September 5th, so PLEASE make your picks by the time qualifying starts.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is an oval track with a lap distance of 1.54 miles. The drivers will circle the track 325 times for a total race distance of 501 miles.
#3 Dale Earnhardt has the most wins since 1975 at Atlanta with 9 victories.
Other history:
In 3/09, #5 M Martin won the pole and #2 Kurt Busch won the race.
In 3/08, #24 J Gordon had the fastest qualifying time and #18 Kyle Busch took home the trophy.
In 10/08, #48 J Johnson led to start the race and #99 C Edwards led at the end.
In 3/07, #39 R Newman was the first car behind the pace car but #48 was the first car to cross the finsh line.
In 10/07, #16 G Biffle was on the pole and #48 J Johnson grabbed the checkered flag.
OK! Ready to pick?
My Atlanta picks are:
1. D Hamlin <~~ MY Boy! He wants to move up in the chase standings.
2. G Biffle <~~~ See above
3. Kurt Busch <~~ He's taking advantage of the #14, #24 and #48 coasting into the chase finals....
4. Kyle Busch <~~~ He's looking to knock the #9 or #17 out of the top 12....
5. C Bowyer <~~~ See above!
My spare will be JR so I can save some huntin' and peckin'
OK!! This close to the start of the Chase .....I change my strategies.....ya just never know in NASCA racing...do ya?
Good Luck EVERYBODY....and....ENJOY the race!
Oh....we have a week off....I'll keep an eye on this and bump it once in a while...
