NASCAR FANS - Pick Your Top 5 For the DAYTONA 500 (by Thursday)

:Pinkbounc
Daily bump.

NEXTEL Cup series cars will be practicing today (again) from 1:40-2:25PM EST on Speed channel. This is the last practice before the Gatorade 125s tomorrow. Did anyone see Trackside last night? Both Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon were on. Interestingly both think the new tires will be an advantage to more "experienced" (older) drivers. Both predicted a more exciting season. Dale Jarrett looked so much better than he did last year - amazing what a smile can do to someones' appearance. I hadn't really paid much attention to the news that Roush and Yates have formed a sort of partnership but apparently it's pretty big news (guess those two have alway hated each other) and it's working out fairly well. May have to start including more Fords in my weekly picks ;)

Here's my picks:

1. Dale Jr.
2. Tony Stewart
3. Dale Jarrett
4. Jimmie Johnson
5. Ryan Newman

spare - Rusty Wallace - (maybe it's his year, finally)

Go race fans!!

Here's my list

1. Dale Jr.
2. Mike Waltrip
3. Tony Stewart (hopefully, though it is not looking good)
4. Dale Jarret
5. Ryan Newman

Spare - Terry Labonte (for my husband)

1. #8 -- Dale Jr. (my favorite)
2. #15 -- Michael Waltrip
3. #38 - Elliot Sadler
4. #48- Jimmie Johnson
5. #12 -- Ryan Newman

Spare -- #20 -- Tony Stewart & #88 - Dale Jarrett

:Pinkbounc Daily bump.

The Gatorade 125s start today at 1PM EST on TNT. Picks must be in by the start of the first race.

NASCAR's Media folks have voted and decided that Ryan Newman is their #1 choice to win the first NEXTEL Cup. Jeff Gordon is 2nd on the list with Jimmie Johnson coming in 3rd. Yes, Jr is on the list but back at 4th place with Stewart being 5th. Of course last year they picked Gordon as #1 so we know that they really don't "know" for sure. Makes you wonder where Kenseth was on last year's list. I'm just glad Gordon is still in their top 5 ;) From Jayski.com:

Newman the Chosen One: Ryan Newman, who led NASCAR’s premier series in wins and poles last season en route to a sixth-place finish in the championship, has been voted the preseason No. 1 in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series by motorsports media. Newman, the 26-year-old Indiana native who drives the No. 12 ALLTEL Dodge for Penske Racing South, collected 1,915 points on the strength of 27 first-place votes to outdistance four-time series champion Jeff Gordon. Newman was followed in the voting by the Hendrick Motorsports tandem of #24-Gordon and #48-Jimmie Johnson. Gordon, last season’s preseason No. 1, is ranked No. 2 with 29 first-place votes and 1,806 points, 109 behind Newman. Johnson amassed 1,801 points – just five points shy of Gordon – behind a poll-high 41 first-place votes to earn the No. 3 ranking. The Hendrick Motorsports duo is followed by #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is No. 4 with 1,525 points and 22 first-place votes. Rounding out the top five is 2002 series champion #20-Tony Stewart who is No. 5 with 1,291 points and five first-place votes. The rest of the top 10 are: #29-Kevin Harvick, #17-Matt Kenseth, #97-Kurt Busch, #18-Bobby Labonte and #42-Jamie McMurray. Twenty-eight drivers received votes from more than 100 motorsports writers who participated in the balloting. Drivers received 20 points for a first-place vote, 17 for second, 15 for third, 13 for fourth, 11 for fifth, nine for sixth, seven for seventh, five for eighth, three for ninth and one for 10th.(NASCAR PR)

Good run for BIG ORANGE .... finished 2nd after a 19th position start....I guess his crew finally fine tuned that Chevy to his liking.....hope he does this well at the 500, we are leaving tomorrow for Daytona and hope for better weather this year from last when we had to make to long ride home in the rain after the race was called just half way into it......Andy

Jr won the first 125 and Sadler won the 2nd. Don't even want to talk about Gordon  Nice run by Stewart though.

Hey Tori.....sorry about the rough run for Gordon, hopefully they can that 24 car fine tuned for the Big Race on Sunday .... Andy

:jumping1: YEA STEWART!!!!

I was very happy for Jr., Sadler and Marlin. I loved seeing Sterling get by Harvick  That was great.

I had to call DH at work and let him know what was going on. He's a Gordon fan so he wasn't to happy. Poor Jeff, tough break on pit road. :( He'll be ok Sun.

Yea Tony!! :jumping1:

I haven't watched it yet, I recorded it and will watch it with Dh later.

Someone, no names mentioned (xABear) took his XM radio to work, so he could listen to the races. He's so happy that racing is back...it's like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween all rolled in one (or maybe I should say Daytona, Bristol, and Atlanta all rolled in one).

:jumping1:
Ginny

"Ummmmm, Bristol"

(she says in her best Homer Simpson voice) :D

They just anounced that Greg Biffle had to change his engine so tomorrow he will go to the back and that now buts JR. up to pole position. YEAH #8

Hopefully the rain will go away and stay away for tomorrow!! but now I will have something to watch on Mon.

18 players this week. Nothing else to add, just wanted to post so I can see the counter ;)

Everyone got your snacks, cleaned your TV screen, ready to go?

I bought M&Ms, Fritos and Pepsi.

My Minnie Mouse Daytona 500 jacket came in the mail today. Now I am all set with my cap and my jacket. Will probably get my starting grid tshirt and die cast car after the race. Jacket is nice.

Chicken wings, and mountain Dew here.

Anyone watch the truck race last night? It was pretty neat watchin Carl Edwards after he won the race. It sure is nice when someone really appreciates a win..He was soooo emotional.

We were panicked! Our Dish on the main TV had very distorted voices coming out. Went to the Dish website for troubleshooting and that problem was not adressed. On a whim, we took out the smart card and miracle of miracles, our TV is working again.

PPPhhhhhheeeeewwwwwwwww.

I can just hear the roaring now.......

Caught the truck race (well after Stargate SG1) and saw Carl win. Yesterday Bob Dillner was talking with Jeff Burton and asked him about Carl's backflip, then said "What are you going to do if you win the Daytona 500" Burton replied - watch Carl Edwards do a backflip ;)

MUUSHKA - So glad you got your TV working again. :teeth:

16 min.'s:jumping1:

I'm so excited for Stewart (hope all goes well after yesretday's practice), Jr. and Sadler. They all look great. We enjoyed the truck race and will have to wait till tomorrow to watch the rest of the Bush race. Housework is done, got our snacks and told the kids they BETTER behave today ;) Hope the rain stay's away and the drivers have a safe race. See you all about 6'ish :D
