We are staying at the DLH for Sept 15/16/17.

We got a great deal on SWA so are now flying to LAX on 09/14. We arrived around 7.30pm, and I am not willing to part with the $241.50 that they want for the additional night at DLH.

We are hoping to keep the cost at $100.00 or under for one night. After reading the reviews on trip advisor (and eliminating any hotel where the website or reservation agent annoyed me!) I have narrowed it down to:

Candy Cane Inn $125.35
Holiday Inn Express Maingate $118.00
Park Vue Inn $104.65
Desert Inn and Suites $102.35
Ramada Maingate $102.35
BW Park Place Inn $102.35
all of the above include tax (15%), cont bfast and parking
does not include additional resort fees.

In addition we are also considering:
Howard Johnson $102.52 but does not include bfast.

It is only DH and I, no kids.

Any of the above that we should definately avoid?

We've stayed there 3 times in the past 3 years, and had only good experiences.

I read some negative items on another board about the Desert Inn/Suites (problems with overcharging and reservations).

How will you get to the DLH? If you're planning to walk with luggage, I think the closer you are, the better. :moped:

I say Desert Inn but I think it was cheaper than that when I looked. Let me check again. We stay there everytime when not onsite and it is clean and very close.

No you are right, it is $89. It was December I was looking at, I just remembered. I still say Desert Inn or BWPPI though, I liked them better than the Park Vue and they are closer than the rest. Have fun, it's always great to add on a night no matter where you have to stay!!!

Yeah I have read those too, but you can find something bad about any place on her list if you look long enough. Just don't want to scare her away from a hotel that has worked out great for our family.

For that price I'd recommend the BWPPI -- it's the closest property to the parks' entrances.

It's always seemed strange to me how some people have great experiences with a hotel/motel while others have absolutely horribles times at the same place. :confused3

My family would vote for the candy cane. Breakfast is great and the shuttle cant be beat.

I'll add another vote for the Candy Cane. It's the prettiest of all the properties you've listed, and it's an easy walk, with the added bonus of having a free private shuttle every half hour.

Not only that, but their breakfast is WAAAAYYY superior to any of the other continental offerings in the area.

Do you have AAA? I think you can get the price down a bit, particularly if you stay in a standard room. With just two of you, it'll be big enough.

I love the Best Western Park Place in. Knowing that it takes less time to cross the road and get into our room than catching a shuttle made it soooo worth it last time :) We got the third room in on the bottom floor so it was super super quick. Having laundry on site was nice too. We are going back there on the 24th again. The breakfast was okay, cereal and danishes kinda thing or a pancake voucher but we don't need much more than that anyways. They also have a good sized mini fridge in the mini suites along with a microwave...so the ability to keep some stuff cold in the room is great too. It's not super fancy, but it's clean, had decent room amenities, was closer than the onsite hotels, lots of channels, and for us that's enough. After staying there last may I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

I've stayed at Candy Cane and Desert Inn. I like both. Walking is shorter from DI, but Candy Cane has a better breakfast and a private shuttle if you don't want to walk.

So I am i right in think it is just for one nite & then you checking into DLH on the 15th. Chose the cheapest. They all looked about the same to me. It might be at least 9 by the time you get checked in. And there is also some nice hotels on Katella Avenue. You might even be able to do better, price wise.

Query..

What's the $245 price coming from?

Travelocity, Expedia, and Ares Travel are all saying that one night would be $210, $245 for a View room.

Along those lines, why leave Disney comfort and style? You can grab Disney's Paradise Pier for $165 a night.

All else fails, do Tropicana or the Hojo. The others along that strip tend to be kinda yuck, and those two both are close to the entrance to Disneyland and DCA. Others may claim to be right there, but aren't.

Also, watch Expedia using the rate calendar for the DLH. They've already got those rooms at a discount rate, so there's a chance 10-14 days prior to your arrival they might drop the price again.

I think the OP was trying to keep the extra night stay to around $100. I forget when the OP was going to stay at DLR, but that could be why the prices are different. We are going late next month and the best discounted rate we could get at a Disney Hotel was $190 per night at PP. Much more than what we wanted to spend.

I thought the HOJO was a bit farther away from the entrance to the resort off of Harbor than Desert Inn & Suites (which is where we are booked). We got the $89 per night internet rate at this place btw, OP. You can cancel up to 3 days prior, I think, which is one of the resons we chose this place. We are waiting to hear if we are able to get one of the RCI timeshares in Anaheim (my dad has some extra time he is trying to throw our way). If we get the Peacock Inn, I believe we might end up with the exact same room style as DI & S.

As far as opinions on a hotel stay, we heard more + than - about this place. Case in point, I had a TERRIBLE experience at the Chilli's in Kissimmee (on 192 & Poinciana, near my dad's timeshare at Celebrity) and will probably never go to another Chilli's again. Will that stop you? Probably not. Will you have a better experience? Maybe.....just don't order the take out! :sunny:

Last Saturday I booked one room with a queen size bed at the Ramada Maingate for $98.02 per night. We have two adult and no children on the trip. All of the reviews on tripadvisor say that this hotel is no more than 10 minutes walking to the entrance of DL, DCA, and DD. And the pool is huge and heated.

I tried to post the websites, but I have too few posts. :(

I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We will be at DL for the half marathon. We decided to go with the Candy Cane Inn. The rates I listed are including all fees and taxes. I checked expedia, travelocity, hotel websites and aaa. The Candy Cane iS $109.00 for a delux with aaa. There is limited availability aS the weekend is busy. DH liked that the Candy Cane had free breakfast, free parking and free wireless internet.

We plan to check in late on the Thursday night. Get up Friday morning, have a leisurely breakfast, pick up my race packet from the the expo, spend the am at DL then have lunch and moveover to the DLH.
