Hello all!
I am off again to the magic this weekend and I just realised I haven't even written up my PTR!!
As you all will remember, I recently took my parents to DLP a couple months back in March to stay at the DLH as a big family treat after a very tiresome and worrying few years for the family... We celebrated my Dad's birthday on St. Patrick's Day, and also celebrated being back in DLP together as a family after over a decade!
Well, we're going back....and this time, Nan's coming!
Cast:-
Me:- Adam, 24 years old - a little obsessed with all things Disney!
Mum:- Jackie, 54 years old (ride thrill-seeker). She has finally realised just how truely magical Disney is on our last visit...
Nan:- Betty, as-young-as-she-feels. Is truely a girlie-girl and loves everything Princessy
and fairytale
(she's going to love this trip)
Dates:-
Saturday 9th July 2011 - Monday 11th July 2011
Why such a short trip?:-
As many of you will know, Mum is still undergoing her cancer treatment but is as strong as ever before and she will forever be my hero for all she has battled through. However, Nan (my Mum's-Mum) has fallen ill and needs to have a big operation later this month (bless her, she's terrified).
For so many years now, Nan has browsed the family photos of me and my parents enjoying every precious moment together in Disneyland Paris - and she has always said to me "oh Adam, it looks so beautiful! One day, I will go!" - well, I thought, enough is enough! No more dreaming, Nan just HAS to see the magic for herself. And so - as a way to take her mind off of her upcoming operation, I've booked us a weekend visit to Disneyland Paris.
I would have LOVED for it to be a much longer visit - but the way Nan is at the moment, it just was not possible... However, this is going to be the PERFECT introduction for her.
The plan:-
Originally, I booked this trip so that we would be arriving on the Sunday, staying at the Disneyland Hotel and coming home on the Monday. But after a LOT of thought, it just seemed like too much strain / travelling to put on Nan so I booked a room-only at Sequoia Lodge on the Saturday so we can travel down a day earlier and Nan can enjoy browsing the resort first... The only trouble with this was it meant we had to get the Eurostar to Gare-du-Nord instead of a direct train going there... but this won't cause too much problems
Saturday 9th July - We live in London so in the morning we will make our way to King's Cross St. Pancras (via Costa) and await the Eurostar. The Eurostar will take us into Gare du Nord where I already have our Metro/RER tickets so we will make the change overs and travel down to DLP.
We should be arriving at the resort at around 15:30. We will then check-in to Sequoia Lodge, freshen-up and then have a leisurely stroll around the resort and hotels to open Nan's eyes to this makebelieve world before getting ready for dinner.
Dinner - Café Mickey, 7:30pm.
Afterwards - cocktails around the lake of course
Sunday 10th July - Get up early. Check-out of Sequoia Lodge and make our way down to Disneyland Park. Stop-off at Disneyland Hotel to check-in and collect our park tickets and drop-off our luggage.
Enter the Disneyland Park and have my camera at the ready as I see Nan's face light-up as we walk towards the Castle
We will then have an easy day so Nan can just enjoy soaking up the atmosphere and realise her childhood.
Ride-wise :- It's A Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan's Flight, Phantom Manor and Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast.
Lunch - Midday - Auberge de Cendrillon
We will then catch the Tarzan show after lunch and work on a very spur-of-the-moment itinerary which I'm hoping Nan will draw up as she sees it all.
Dinner - unplanned
FIREWORKS!!!!
Monday 9th July - Breakfast at DLH
and then check-out and head to Disney Studios. Ridewise, the only thing Nan will really be able to do (and enjoy) is the Studio Tram Tour.
She is really excited about all of the shows so I will make sure she gets to see Cinémagique (our favourite), Animagique etc...
Lunch - unplanned (I know, I'm slacking here!!)
Have a last wander through the shops/parks - whatever Nan decides.
Collect our luggage and get the Eurostar home at 7:37pm - cry the entire way back!
Nan needs this trip to be as stress-free and as easy as is possible for a Disney-trip. So, I've seen the resort more times than I can even count and my Mum knows the place inside-out too... so this is going to be entirely about my Nan and we are just going to let her be in charge (with a gentle steer here and there, of course
).
.....Is it Saturday yet?!?!
