Names........

I am looking forward to taking my husbands last name. By taking his name it shows that I am part of a new family and marks the start of our new life together. No one is forcing me to take the name and I see it as an honour to be welcomed into that family and be able to take their name.

I also think that it will make things easier once we start to have children and we can all share the same last name.

I think I may do the same so I don't think it's "dumb"! My maiden name is hard to pronounce, but I've grown to love it and was struggling with giving it up. I like my middle name so I think I'll just have two middle names! I really want to take my fiance's last name because I'm traditional like that.

Thanks for the idea!

np! :) it really was the solution... :thumbsup2

I have decided to comprimise I am going to keep my last name. I promised my grandfather before he died that I (the only daughter of the only son) would keep our name even if its only for one generation. My DF is amazing about it. Much like For Keeps all of my degrees are in my last name so it only makes sense. When it comes to correspondance though (ie Christmas Cards and such) I will have my hyphenated name. The kids will have their daddy's name there is no reason for the kids to have my last name unless they choose to. I think that this question is an especially hard one since everyone has different reasons for their choice. Best of luck!

I seem to be the weird one here, but I am excited to take DF's last name. I hate my last name. It is a simple 4 letter name that everyone misspells. DF name is a little longer (6 letters) but is a very common name. The only problem I am going to have is that whenever I am asked my last name I say it and instantly start to spell it for them. I am afraid that I will look like an idiot when people ask me my new name, and I start to spell it for them. (Like I said it is a very common name that most everybody knows how to spell.)

I'm the same way. I'm so excited to get my fiance's last name. I'm keeping my maiden name as my middle name. But, I have the opposite situation. My name is easy to spell but his is not. My new last name is going to be "Pugh." A lot of people don't know how to pronounce it either. It's like the skunk, pepe-le-pew. Hey, I'm just excited to be getting married to him! Who cares what his last name is?! :rotfl:

I actually never even thought to NOT change my name. I guess because that's the tradition...I don't know. My mom changed her name when she married my dad and kept my dad's name even after the divorce, right up until she got remarried. My last name isn't my REAL last name anyway. Way back when it used to have a Z in it. My great grandfather didn't like the Z, so he took it out! My last name is always misspelled and pronounced wrong but so is DBF's...oh well, one Polish name to the next!

I agree though, it's a personal decision and everyone is going to have thier own reasons why they would or wouldn't change their name. I just never even thought of keeping mine so I'm not going to.
