Our high school is trying to put together a program for high school students to earn credits by engaging in recreational events with our students with severe disabilities. It is a way for them to learn more about different abilities (maybe even inspire some to go into the field of special education!) & also a way for our students with severe special needs to be included more.

I"m seeking suggestions for a name of this program? Nothing that sounds demeaning toward our students.

Thanks!~

Can you do a play off your school mascot? ie DDs school was Lions so Lion Leaders or something?

Another established program that is very popular in our local high school is Unified Theater -- the program has peer mentors working with students with disabilities in the theater, and they produce a showcase once a year.

I guess this is my question: what do the disabled kids get to contribute? I think that if you can identify the contributions of both sets of kids, you can probably come up with a phrase or acronym.

I think that some of the suggestions made thus far concentrate on how great it is for the non-disabled kids to volunteer. I would prefer to see something that paints the disabled kids in an equally positive light for being in the program.

Maybe concentrate on the types of activities they'll be doing together, as opposed to praising their participation?

Does this make sense?
