My DS is sick and I think he has an ear infection and has to go to the doctor today. My SIL told me they make a new antibiotic for kids that's a "once a day" liquid instead of the Amoxicillin which is taken a few times a day.

Does anyone know what this is called? I'm not even sure if it'd be recommended in this instance, but I just wanted to know the name and if it works. Thanks in advance.

My DD has taken Zithromax, which is once a day and a pretty small amount for her. She is 7.

I agree Zithromax. My son has been prescribed this. Much easier to remember than the amoxicillin my DD is on now three times a day. Although they gave my son a Tri-pack which is higher dosage for three days and it did make him feel nauseous but he was fine with the five-day regimen.

Zithromax is the one.. but it may give people the runs..

My allergic reaction to Zithromax is one of the reasons I now carry Benedryl with me all the time.

I wouldn't like to scare you, but I have been totally put off antibiotics.

My nephew, aged 7 at the time, got meningitis about 15 months ago, it took hold so fast it was unbelievable. Luckily his parents got him to hospital in time, 30 minutes later the doctors would not have been able to save him. Ironically, if he had been brought in too early he could possibly have been sent home again as all the symptoms don't show up too early with meningitis.

My BIL and SIL had always resisted any doctors prescibing antibiotics, with the result that my nephew had never had one before the meningitis hit. Therefore he hadn't built up a resistance to any antibiotics, and when he really needed it, the one he was given worked more quickly.

A little girl brought in the same day with meningitis wasn't quite so lucky. She lived, but she'd developed blood poisoning in her fingers, so she lost them.

Sorry, I know this is horrible, but the whole thing shocked me to the core. I'd rather my kids spent weeks battling an illness without an antibiotic, than find their systems were immune when they really needed it.
