What is one of your favorite childhood memories? Here's one of mine:

Leading up to a vacation, my mom always enjoyed talking it up for weeks and weeks, getting me so excited. One thing she always did was make up some kind of big goody container for the trip there, whether we went by car or plane. I couldn't get it until we left for the trip, and everything in it was a surprise. It mainly consisted of new fun toys and things to occupy me during the trip; I remember there always being a new coloring book and new box of crayons, one of my favorite pastimes; maybe there even would be a new stuffed animal.

It was always so much fun to open my goodie bag and go through all the new goodies (now, looking back, I see it was probably also a benefit to my parents who could enjoy a few hours of me not nagging them!). So, what is a favorite childhood memory of yours?

This is kind of silly, but one of my favorites was sitting under the kitchen table playing school. My Mom would pack me a brown bag lunch so I could be like the big kids.

Some of my favorite memories involve my grandparents--my dad's mom would have us spend the night almost every Saturday. We'd watch sitcoms (MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, etc.) and in the morning, she'd make us blueberry pancakes that were as big as your head. I have no idea how she made pancakes that huge!

My mom's parents would take us to their cottage on Lake Michigan during the summer. We'd go garage saleing, make banana splits, and my grandfather taught us how to play poker so we'd be occupied on rainy days.

Sitting with my dad in the evenings on his lap when I was a little girl. He would pop popcorn for all of us and we would all watch tv. My parents were very frugal, we only had one tv and no cable, so we watched what he wanted, but I just remember feeling so safe...... I fell asleep a lot of the time and he would carry me to bed.

To this day, my favorite night time snack is popcorn!

Spending Sunday afternoons at Yankee Stadium with my dad. :cloud9: The subway rides were fun, too! :scared: :)

I was 11 and my sister was 7. We were at our new cabin up in Tahoe and there was a small creek running through the back. We made a fishing pole of a stick, yarn and a big safety pin and trotted down to the creek with a package of bologna. The cabin was in a new development the loop we were on was filled with contractors building other cabins. They laughed at us as we sat on the rocks losing piece after piece of meat, then it happened...a very hungry trout as big around as the creek was deep came slithering up into the shallows chomping at the Bologna and setting my sister and myself into a screaming frenzy. The contractors came running down thinking one of us was hurt and just about died laughing when they saw the source of our misery was a 4 lb trout that had thrown itself onto the rocks chasing after the bologna that we had run away with. We didn't even catch him! Poor fishy sacrificed himself. That is the first and last time I went fishing, but we have a great picture with our contractor friends and a fun memory. :goodvibes
